My wife recently picked up a trainer and is looking for beginner interval training guides.

This is quite outside of my realm (never trained indoors/never rode to train) but I wanted to see if anyone here had insight as far as programs to take a look at.

She's definitely a beginner in this respect but is looking for something to build her endurance via HIIT.

Thanks

A very simple but effective workout is the Sprint 8 workout. See link:

You do 8 x 30 second full out intervals with 90 seconds of rest. I warm up for 20-25 min first for a 45 min workout. This is easy to do.

I used to do this once a week when traveling out of town.

If you don't mind paying for a subscription, TrainerRoad has tons of good workouts and workout plans. You can do it with almost any trainer (and realistically, any trainer if you don't care about absolute power being right) though a power meter/smart trainer works best. I find it helps me to keep my workout schedule structured to prevent over training and burnout- I tend to overdo the intervals and wind up in a rut otherwise.

Look at Zwift, see if it's something she would be interested in.

Would be good to get Matt Hayman's indoor workouts from 2015. Seemed pretty effective.

+1 on Zwift the interactivity/immersion factor helps with boredom and motivation and there are many options for workout plans for all levels - great way to get feet wet with interval training. Group rides and workouts too.
