this is one of the top 5 funniest moments in 35 years of bike industry trade shows.
cant remember the year but it had to be mid 80s.
as many of you know various stars set times that they will hand out autographs or autograph jerseys or whatever shows up. hinault was int he look booth for his autograph session.
triathlons were pretty new at the time and were getting a huge amount of attention, everything was tri- tri- tri.
tri was getting triersome for me for sure..
anyway.
in the next aisle scott tinley had just won the ironman and he was signing autographs at his booth... the line for scott tinleys autograph had about 250 people in it... it snaked all around and actually went right in front of hinaults booth.
hinault was sitting there with nobody paying any attention to him... everyone was moving along right by him in he hope of getting tinleys signature. he took it pretty well for a recent 5 time tour winner and the irony of the event was spectacular. top 5 funny moment.
