Has anyone tried these egregiously expensive, but kind of cool shoes? The idea of molding portions of the shoe to my size 12 really skinny foot is appealing and I am a big fan of the superstiff all carbon sole.

The shoe has not been reviewed on roadbikereview.com. The only review I found was on cyclingnews.com which gave it a positive review, but one never knows when the reviewer is shilling for the manufacturer that advertises on the website.

I gave some thought to these Lake shoes, I also gave some serious thought to a pair of full custom Rocket 7 shoes for around $800, without an insole. Then I happened to try the Specialized S-Works shoes with the Boa closure, and finally I had found shoes that fit my feet. They are not cheap, $275, then I had a pair of very cool custom orthotics made for them for another $300, now for $575 my feet are finally happy. The custom orthotics are cycling specific, full carbon fiber ,very thin, they are the real deal! My point, why mold your foot to an insole that is really not custom when you can have one made to match your shoe. Not sure how much the Lake shoes cost, about $400? My money is on shoes with a custom made orthotic. Just my 2 cents.

I have S-works BOAs as well and find them very comfortable. They were designed by Andy Pruitt of Boulder Sports Medicine fame.
AND they are on sale for $160 at Specialized site.

I think the Specialized shoes on sale are the 2005 model, I have the 2006 that have been redesigned, never tried the 2005. Here is the link to the company that makes the cycling specific orthotic I just had made, check out the Skithotic Cycle specific orthotic, http://www.nwpodiatric.com/products/index_prodfunc.html#sg
