Seems high but....... seeing as the paint and decals didnt blow off in a light evening breeze like most of them, its a nice frameset.

Even in dollars that number IMO is too much... the chrome is in good shape and the paint too but for like 800 us dollars is like too much. The biggest problem is that are zillions of those still around and sellers usually are trying to get their money back or using ebay for pricing, which is IMO a big mistake. at US$500 it could be still too much IMO.

I'll agree with above. 900 CAD / 700 USD seems a bit high to me, even if the fit is perfect, you love the color, and it is truly local (i.e. no shipping at all). Even so, I would try for a bit less.

Does this one have only one set of bottle bosses?

A Pinarello in nice condition like that is fairly rare, so I think it has more value than most. Asking price is high but I don’t think $500-600 USD is too crazy, especially with B.B. and headset included ($80-100 value).

I bought one for my wife. One set of water bottle bosses. Mine has a fully chromed rear triangle however otherwise identical. The decals are fragile. This one has not seen a lot of sunlight.

One of the 3 high end Pinarello frames of the day(late 80s, early 90s(?)..Gavia(TSX), Stelvio(?) SL..nice little shelves at BB shell..900 CAN ($705US) a little high, IMHO..probably in the $500US, 625-ish CAN range..very nice riding frames, sold them in the early 80s in a little shop in SoCal.

I've had a couple of Pinarellos from this era. Maybe I missed something in the photos. Didn't the Montello have internal cable routing? Also, I find the decals just too good to be original, which are very fragile and soon fade away to ghosts.

Seems high to me. I wouldn't pay more than, say, US 600, and even that only if I really, really like red (which I don't).

This DOES have internal cable routing. Looks legit to me. I had a Montello that remains my favorite bike ever. When I was in Italy in the 80s, Sr. Pinarello made it for me, believing I was the next incarnation of Alexi Grewal (tall and skinny). I spent three days in Treviso with his daughter while he made it. In a fit of reduction, I sold it and regret it to this day.

Like the others, I think this one's a bit pricey, but if it merits the cost in your head, then it's worth it. If I found the right specimen, Id consider paying this much.

EDIT: Yes, the decals are very fragile. When I got mine, Mr. Pinarello gave me a second set, which I think I still have around here somewhere (but don't know where).

Had a red Treviso model -the first Columbus SL steel frame I purchased back in the 80's . Made layaway payments on it for a year till finally able to pick it up and then raced the heck out of it. Decals flaked away the first month after each wipe down but it still got looks when lining up at start line. Regret ever selling it.

+1 to Mistermo's comment "Like the others, I think this one's a bit pricey, but if it merits the cost in your head, then it's worth it. If I found the right specimen, Id consider paying this much.".

You have to be carefull when you check an old frame an old frame for pricing , condition is everything obviously but you wanted or not an old frame is an old frame. Then you have to check for how uncommon are, pinarello invaded the market with those frames, as many said the weakness is the decals, and I would add the chrome aswell but you found one that is pretty much mint. I would say that if you can talk the seller down all the way like 450 canadian you did ok.

The other big problem, is that eventhought steel is always coming and going, there's a loooooooottt of steel moving around, making the price go down.

IME the reason a guy wants to cash out in a frame selling it expensive is because the dude is waiting to see who falls for it, or put too much money and screwed up and is trying to get something out of it. Example? a bunch of steel colnago and pinarellos frames at ebay, they arent going to sell. There is a replica look kg96 or seo like for 6 thousand dollars with old ultegra stuff, dude is smoking the good one and probably the seller will die before he/she gets a penny from a buyer.

Maybe it's a lower spec, but aesthetically at least, I find this Pinarello to be much more interesting.

Cost me $800 to have CyclArt repaint and restore my '87 Montello so that is a fair price if it is in that good of shape to me.

Cost me less than half that to have Groody bros do mine, including decals and clear over them, and it's absolutely flawless. It's also the best riding bike I've ever had. Now, with old potatoe wheels, and ten speed record/chorus , it's really the most amazing bike. I've had mine for 11 years, paid about 450 on the fleabay back then for the frameset with near-perfect paint and near-gone decals.

That looks great; do you have any overall shots?

IMO paint and decals are just a detail, even dents are a detail because are easy to fix, the problem is chrome. If the chrome is in bad condition there is no way to fix that w/o dropping good dough in the mix. Every year less and less people is actually doing chroming and the ones they do are charging and arm and a leg. And thats when a restoration gets tricky.
