i'm putting together a atlanta - i was planing on a cinelli stem - is there any advantage to the XA or A1 Stem? is one or the other considered better?

It's just a fashion thing. The XA came out after the 1A, both are solid
stems.

One thing to look out for with Cinelli bars and stems is that they come
in both 26.4 and 26.0 handlebar size. Make sure both your bar and
stem are the same size.
