View Full Version : Help with value of a DeRosa Primato?

I bought a DeRosa Primato last year, and the frame arrived with cosmetic damage. The seller was supposed to send along some touch-up paint. He never did. Whatever. Things happen.

Anyway, I've decided that I'm not going to build it up. I'd like to sell the frame, fork, and headset, but I have no clue about value. There's a significant (to my eye) area of missing paint on the underside of the head tube (picture four) and another smaller area on the underside of the bottom bracket shell (picture five).

The frame is a 55.5 x 55.5. The tubing is EL. The chainstays are diamante.

I'd be very grateful to hear opinions about the value of the f/f/hs. Thanks.

Also, is there a way to embed images from Google Photos? Thanks again!

Disclose the paint chips and ask what you paid for it. Those nicks wouldn't bother me at all.

By the way, the frame is a 55.5 x 55.5. And I bought it complete, though I immediately got rid of all the parts that came with it.

Zmudshark knows DeRosa's really well. I'd PM him and see what he says.

I could help if it was a Merckx.

That’s a gorgeous frame. Unless you’re in warm weather place like SoCal or Florida, bike prices tend to drop a little until the spring time. Check sold prices on eBay and subtract 10-15% for a local sale. I think if your’re patient you could get $ 700-750 on eBay.

Huh. On the one hand, that's more than I would have guessed. On the other hand, I'm going to sell it here. I guess unless other people think I'm nuts, I'll ask $400 for a local sale and that plus shipping and fees to send it elsewhere. Now I just have to get the pictures figured out.

Looks just like my old frame in a smaller size. $400 is too low, IMHO, since it ticks some important boxes: Flat crown fork, Diamante chainstays, webbed BB and EL tubing.
This is the best of the lot IMHO. Paint chips just confirm it's original paint:rolleyes:. I would guess $600 for a quick sale and $700+ with some time

for that price it wont last but a few minutes I'd bet,i think your undervaluing your frame based on those photos.it looks has seen very little use.
I would have guessed it would fetch $750 - $900 if that's the only damage to the frame.its a beauty,i wanted one of those when they came out,1994 I think.still have the old giordana catalog somewhere

GLWSI bought a Primato in great shape a few years ago with full Chorus alloy, and I think that $900+ is not unreasonable at all from what I can see - especially with the chromed lugs and fork crown. GL.

Popular size, good color, excellent condition, only blems in rather inconspicuous areas, most desireable version of Primato...If somebody gets this frame for less than $1k USD, they have gotten a bargain.

Wow, I've owned 3 of these and they are an amazing ride..I think $400 is too low as well..I think easily in the $600-$700 range.

Didn't this just sell in the Classifieds?

Yup. As predicted, didn’t last long. Somebody got a great deal.

Oooof. This is a beautiful bike. While I understand everyone is different, methinks the severity of the blemishes is/was vastly overblown.

I am curious: what is the correct lineage/hierarchy/tubing spec between De Rosa:
Primato
Neo Pro
Neo Primato
Giro d'Italia

?
