I'm thinking about trying a 52/36 setup & going to start with my bike with a powermeter. My crank is a Quarq, so according to the guy I talked to there, I can use either sram or 3rd party 110bcd rings. Anyone have preferences on 3rd party rings? How does Praxis hold up? There are a few used sets on the bay, but I don't know about their durability.

Personally wouldn't bother, a waste of time.

I moved from Dura Ace compact to Praxis mid-compact chainrings. I find it easier to find a comfortable gear without a lot of cross-over. The Praxis rings are very nice.

If you're on a 34t inner then a 36t might be worth the swap (if you live somewhere that's not hilly). A 52t doesn't really gain you much and you still end up with that 16t gap between the rings.

Praxis rings have worked well for me.

I'm not sure I'd buy used ones unless they were in incredible shape.

Praxis offers the best front shifting I’ve ever experienced.

Sounds good. Think I'll go Praxis on this one.

I've used Praxis rings for years, I think Shimano shift better.

Praxis are cheap if you can find someone selling a Praxis crank- they're often on ebay for ~100 or less.

not just saying this because I have an extra 52/36 set that I could sell you if you like, but I've been super happy with WickWerks rings. I've used them in cross for the past few years and they've been awesome. no issues with front shifting under any conditions. that said, I've never tried Praxis rings. the WW rings have a super aggressive ramp on the inside of the big ring that makes shifting very smooth and crisp, so that's why I went with them (over Praxis) for cross and loved 'em so much I bought 52/36 for road. I've just moved away from that size and back to a compact.

A 52t doesn't really gain you much and you still end up with that 16t gap between the rings.it's all relative to where you live and ride but I would agree that I like a 50/36 combo where I live. you don't have the annoying 14 tooth gap you get with either 50/34 or 52/36, and with a 50 you can stay in the big ring over more rolling hills and such. it's just a pain because you basically need to cobble together two chainring sets or buy a 36 separately for an existing 50/34 set.

Thanks! I'll check those out and PM you.
