I turned 50 in September and got a crazy idea one morning... "I'm going to ride every day in October". I didn't have a great year of riding as we are short-handed at work and I've been doing a fair amount of travel.

Many were short, one was long, a little mountain, some cross, some road, some singlespeed.

Weather included a lot of wind (all of it HEAD wind, of course :butt:), some rain, some snow, some sun.

We are super busy at work, so some rides were late, and I picked short rides, off the main road with steep climbs to make sure they were "worthy" of being called a "ride". I had two pit-bull encounters, but none involved aggressiveness, thankfully. I saw racoons, many many deer, a massive herd of elk, one rattlesnake, and a few mice.

Stats:

31 rides
37 hours
405 miles
32,385 feet of climbing
Longest ride: 55 miles / 6200' of climbing
Shortest ride: 4.3 miles (freezing rain turning to snow)
3 different bikes (IF cross bike, Scott fatbike, Kona 29er SS)
8 charges of my bike light (Amoeba)
1 flat tire

Locations include:
Golden, CO
Kenosha Pass, CO
Moab, UT
Cortez, CO
Denver, CO
Boulder, CO
Castle Rock, CO

Thanks guys. There was only one day that I really dreaded riding. It was after a very long day of work, kid's school banquet, and it was 9:45 at night, dark and rainy. But like just about every ride, when the ride is over, you are glad you went!

Very tough to do this when you're still working and can't commute to work. Nice job.

Now that's the way to do it.

Not every ride has to be a sufferfest, or a fashion show, or Perfect.

It!s a freakin' bike designed for people to jump on and GO!

That is the best picture for me. True dedication, to a personal cause.

Thanks, everyone.

I know a guy that gets 11,000 miles in per year, so I realize this isn't heroic, but it was fun to finish up that goal!

Now... back to reality. I have a buddy that has ridden or ran every single day for the past 8 or so years! YEARS! He's nuts, but a good friend. Sometimes, we'll meet for a group ride at 7 am, and he's already got a 5 mile run in by then. He's been chased by mountain lions, sprayed by skunks, etc. Now THAT's dedication!

Thinking about riding after work tonight....

when a buddy of mine turned 40:
He rode 40 miles
Ran 40 K
Swam 4000 yards

I MIGHT have been able to do that when I turned 30...

Good job and great pictures. It looks like you missed peak foliage at Kenosha but those views are still spectacular.

Yes - I missed peak foliage but I did get peak wind gusts! Lots of trees blown across the trail that day. Plus, I was wearing a brown bike jersey during elk hunting season!

I pick a month a year to ride everyday. Last year is was August which was dumb being in NE Texas and all. This year it was May and I rode 1005 mostly flat miles with some really dull scenery. Your month was better.

logged my first 1,000-mile month in Sept...

doesn't sound that hard at 33 miles/day unless you take a day or two off.

then things start getting more difficult.

As someone who turned 50 and has not been riding for much of the same reasons, a tip of a cap to you!
