View Full Version : Does this fork exist? Carbon, 1 1/8" disc, fender, & rack mounts?

So I'm thinking about replacing the fork on my Salsa Vaya for something lighter and carbon, but can't seem to find one that has all the features I need.

Needs to be disc, 1 1/8", have fender mounts, and some way to mount a mini front rack without P clamps. I can find forks that have 3 of the 4 features I need, but only one with all 4. It's a Nashbar fork that has both disc and Canti mounts, so I could use the canti mounts for something like the VO Pass Hunter rack. That fork is pretty hefty, so kind of defeats the purpose! Any options I'm missing?

TIA

Assuming this is an older Vaya w the 1-1/8" steer tube, Whisky, Fyxation, and Lynskey all make one. I used a Lynskey fork on my old Vaya. Worked great.

I cant think of one but one option is using a dropout eyelet.

Something like that for a fender and use the more secure eyelet attatched to the fork for a rack

possibly this?

Steerer is alloy and it's a TA but looks pretty good to me and the price is not horrible.

Thanks for the replies. Yes this is an older 2015 Vaya, so strait 1 1/18" steerer. I'd obviously like to avoid using something like that VO fender eyelet, looks like it would make wheel removal a PITA. The Whisky and Lynskey forks don't have a good way to mount a mini rack. Just went to the Fyxation website, and they may have the perfect fork, the Sparta:

It's not perfect, but so far it's the top contender. Not crazy about the flat mount disc, but I think there are adapters to use an IS brake? Also not crazy about the 12mm thru axle, would require new wheels. But, I could mount 2 extra water bottles, which could be a plus.

So thanks, hadn't seen that Sparta fork, and if anyone else has any suggestions, feel free to throw them out here.

Ruckus Composites in Portland could likely take something like the Whiskey Fork and customize it to have all the braze on points you want. The Caveat is they would not drill into the fork for obvious reasons, but molding stuff on to the outside, I've seen that done at least on the upper part near the crown.

Parlee molded fender mounts on my now discontinued Whisky 9 road disc fork.

At least you don't also want through axle. That one is a bitch to find without a tapered steerer.

If you decide to get a different head tube I really, really like this fork:

Fender mounts, light mount, dynamo cable routing. But unfortunately tapered steerer and thru axle.

Another fork to consider would be the Spot brand carbon cross fork. You'd need to send it off to get rack mounts added by a Ruckus or Cyclocarbon type of company, but it looks to be a solid fork.

but what I can say is the rake is right, the axle to crown is almost the same as the factory fork (400 for the spot and 405 for the stock vaya fork), unless yours is a 50mm instead of 45.
