Anybody know when these pedals will be available? I'm also wondering if the cleat will be the same or if they've also enlarged the cleat design along with the pedal. I ride the original SL's but the plastic portion of the pedal creaks at times.

From velonews "Speaking of Shimano, the manufacturer had its new Dura-Ace pedal, first spotted at the Tour, on display at Eurobike. The PD-7810 SPD-SL pedal features a larger platform than its predecessor. In addition, the cleat platform is now metal instead of plastic. The new pedal weighs 278 grams and its cleats weight 70 grams. Shimano claims that the redesigned platform has a noticeable advantage by promoting side-to-side foot stability."

My shimano rep is saying Feb.

Your milage may vary.

The '07 catalog shows only 1 cleat part number,
so i don't think it will change.

I just spoke with Shimano in Ca and late Jan'07 is the appointed date for sale of this new pedal.

I asked them whether the lateral movement with the yellow cleat had been eliminated and they were dumbstruck. Said they had no idea what I was on about.

Has anyone else noticed the lateral movement with the yellow cleats - not the six degree angular float. When I say lateral movement I am talking about the cleat moving further away from the crank, much like Time's 2.5mm lateral float on their RXS pedal.

yeah,

the side to side slipping motion. farkin' hate it. makes me want to go back to my speedplay zero's i sold. but, such is life.

have gotten used to it. really do hate the popping and pinging during an out of saddle jump........... a little unerving. If ****mano has not changed the cleat design, then the new pedals will be no different..............just more expensive. gotta love technology :argue:

the only reason i bought them was that i ride ****mano r215 shoes and the interface between pedal and shoe is excellent. imho. the sideways float sucks though.

both sites say 19,950yen retail, late january 2007 release, same spd-sl cleats sm-sh10/11 as before. no real info. the retailer site has info about if buy over 20,000 yen you get free shipping or if you buy a bike etc. (but it only seems like free shipping to the main island, honshu hahahaa. )

AgilisMerlin,

I am so with you on the spd-sl pedals. I so wanted to completely love the system. It has a great cleat that wears slowly and is easy to walk on, the entry and exit are fantastic and the retention of the cleat, even on low spring tension, is excellent with no fear of premature release.

But for that damn lateral play! And the part that kills me is that every time I mention it to someone at Shimano USA they say they don't know what I am talking about. The guy today said he has used four different versions of the spd-sl system and doesn't know what I am talking about. He sounded like he thought I was a crack head! I told him that Leonard Zinn even mentioned it back in August 2002 in his Velonews review after he was given a pair to do the first north american review of them. That didn't faze him one bit!!!!

I will try this new model when it comes out to see if it's any better. Until then I will stick with the speedplay zeros.

My dream is to get all my biomechanical issues sorted so I can use the spd-sl pedal with the fixed cleat. In my mind that is the epitome of what a pedal / shoe interface should be. Solid and reliable!

Update:

Well since I am extremely anal and extremely intrigued by this new pedal I did so searching. I found a big pic of the 7810 pedal from above and did a little comparison with the 7800 pedal I have in my hand.

For the 7800 pedal the ratio of the width of the toe hook, between the pointed corners, to the pedal axle next to the locknut is 1.89. Measuring that on the screen shot of the 7810, I determined its ratio as only 1.46. So if that is roughly correct it will mean that whereas the 7800 toe is 22mm wide, the toe of the 7810 should be only 17.9mm wide, if my measurements are at all accurate! That should mean a reduction in the lateral movement allowed since toe width is the dimension that acts as a limiter on it.

Granted this is not at all scientific but it is a ray of hope in the search for the perfect pedal!!!

I actually like the side-to-side play as well as the float on the Dura Ace pedals. My feet can find their own center.

:D gotta order those replacement plastic beds for the pedals from www.excelsports.com

i have used every major pedal system...........and i am determined to bury these mofo's...........that is until the new version comes out next year, and i can buy a new pair of 7800's on da' ebay on the cheap'

know what i mean............

it is funny that ****mano has no idea what you are talking about in regards to the sideways float.....................ba ha ha ! :D

Has anyone figured out HOW to GET RID of the creaking noise during peddling. I've been thinking that was my front der or seat post clamp or seat springs. Can't seem to figure why on 90-100 cadence revolutions I hear these rhythmic sounds.

Guess I could lube the heck out of it?????

AgilisMerlin

the crap out of the cleats, wipe clean, and spray the pedal body.

i do this once a week, and have never had the noise. But then again, i ride everyday before work and on my days off. I actually make my kids clean my pedals...........just kidding..........well sort of :D

armor all cleans the shyut out of the cleats and pedal body. and it is cheap.

And make sure your bolts are tight on your cleats, and back out the pedals from the cranks and grease the hell out of the threads...............If you done all this crap and it still makes the noise...............grease the crap out of your b.b. threads...........process of elimination.

Thanks AMerlin... my bike is usually spotless, but I haven't tried Armour All on the pedals and cleats... will give that a try.

By the way, How did you add the cool pic to your identification? In fact, how do you add any pic to your name/

thanks,

here is a site that gives you 50x50 (max) size

http://news.deviantart.com/article/15370/? the avatars are on the left:

this site has 48x48 , so find the one you like, i run microsoft Op systems so xp millenium or whatever all their other operating systems are - i have been brain washed by Bill Gates, not apple - so these commands are not apple friendly. :argue:

i right click on the picture and the drop down window appears. then left click on properties. Then you will see the address of the avatar. This is the location of where the picture sits on their server.

left click on the beginning of address and hold button down and highlight entire address. ex. http://www.thisistheaddress.com or www.thisistheaddress.com.

After you have highlited the address, hit the control button and the c button. this is a short cut to copying it. or you could left click with the option to copy what you have just highlited.

then go to serotta control panel, open up the avatar setting. you will see the http: option to dump the address. get rid of anything in this box, then right click in the box and past the address you highlited for the avatar.

give me a shout if you are stuck. practice pasting this picture in their

http://a.deviantart.com/avatars/d/j/dj-designs.gif

gotta go buy some pale ale. got inlaws coming tomorrow.

bye the way. sold a vitus cross bike about 3 years ago, called a futurox. alum. lugged, dark blue...........had a mono seat stay. now that was comfie.

if you are interested in other 50x50 avatars, i like animated then you could google this :

enjoy your search...........................................

Outstanding AmerLin, need some time to translate and process but I'll definitely follow-up on this... THANKS.

I still have my Vitus with a Mavic Pro group (which I now use for my wind-trainer when the darn weather sucks). MY LBS was correct, once I got my new Ottrott ST, that's all I ride outside. Life is soooooo good.

I'll get going on these sites this weekend, now that I have some time,

thanks again,

i swear upon my dogs grave, the cleat is the same.

the hype is in the metal plate on the body, instead of plastic replaceable.

ebay shimano 7800 pedal and buy for a 140.00 buck new and forget about it.

cleat is the same yellow or red.
