A friend has an old LeMond Malliot Jaune 853 (Trek era) for sale, and I'm pretty interested.

I remember LeMond sizing being a little weird though...

I ride a 50s (54 top tube) C60, and I'm wondering if the LeMond will work for me. The LeMond has what he says - seat tube = 53 CtC, top tube = 55 CtC,
head tube = 12 CtC

Those measurements don't seem right to me based on a Google search for frameset sizing for that model. I thought I'd put it out to the forum for any advice or input.

Thanks!

Just to start you cant measure the front tube center to center, is measured from top to bottom, between the headset cups, just from there I would measure the frame myself because something is wrong, either way... if the frame is 55 cm top tube and if it was for me... that frame should match really close to the colnago.

But since I do not know your fit or your taste, I would be sure about the measurements 1st.

Thanks for the info! The 2004 resource is for the spine versions, but I can't imagine the geometry and dimensions changed all that much.

I'm having him measure the head tube including height added by headset. I'll have a much better notion of fit after that.

What year is the MJ?

Lemond frames have generally laid back ST angles and longer TTs. My 2004 55 has an ETT of 56.5. A 53 should have an ETT of about 54.5

Had a conversation with him on the phone and got things all cleared up.

Thanks for the input!

Turns out it's a 53 by LeMond sizing which should fit me (5'10") fine.

I don't know your measurements but I have one that is from 2001 that fits me like a glove. I am 5.10 and 152 lbs of average build - no crazy long arms etc.
Mine is a 55. I have had it for 12 years and is always my go to bike no matter what else is in my stable. No odd sizing on crankset arms (172.5) or stem etc.
They are wonderful to ride.
Hope this helps a bit.

I had a 853 MJ. Mine was a larger 57 and its TT was 58. You are close enough to go for it. Especially if it is the yellow and red one. Mine was also under 17 pounds on my bathroom scale. One thing to plan for perhaps would be a new and improved fork. I think that was the weak point. I wish I still had mine.
