Rob Hayles is a proper pro cyclist, of the type that doesn't really exist any more. Team pursuit over 4k? Yup. Madison over some ludicrous number of dizzying laps? Yup. Points race? Yup. Town centre crit? Yup. 100 mile road race? Yup. Nearest would be those (few) guys who pro road race during the summer and then do the 6 day circuit - Zabel, Voight. All great, great cyclists. Why aren't they the heroes rather than some guy pushing yellow bands and a silly swoopy logo on the back of one race a year?
