I am enjoying a New Belgium Voodoo Ranger ATOMIC PUMPKIN ale as I type this - very interesting flavor with cinnamon and habanero peppers - 6.4% ABV

Others I like are:

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale - 7% ABV
Schlafly Pumpkin Ale
Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale

Normally a dark beer/abbey ale fan but enjoy Pumpkin Ales in the fall.

Opinions?

Jeff

Not my favorite genre of beer, but the Schlafly is a silent killer. Some years it pushes 10% ABV! This year they have a really nice blend of spice against the pumpkin flavor.

shipyard pumpkinhead has been my #1 for a few years now. always opt for the cinnamon rim draft if your bar offers it..

gonna have to look at schlafly (edit: apparently their closest seller is in port jefferson, ny haha).

The Dogfish head Punkin is solid, I like it a lot.

May need to try the Atomic Pumpkin, did they base it on the Voodoo IPA or?

if you can find https://www.averybrewing.com/beers/rumpkin, it's pretty amazing. it's also not cheap, but you can split the 12oz bottle with about 4 people and all 4 of you will be happy

Ugg. Enjoying an all day IPA now and reeling at the thought of pumpkin beer.

Gotta say that the Shipyard pumpkin poured in a bah with a sugared rim is still one of my favorites. It's basic, but pure and tasty.

Funny, I was given a 5-pack of the Atomic Voodoo as the person that bought it didn't like the heat at the end. I'm also not a fan of the style, a Dogfish Punkin maybe on Thanksgiving Day, but the New Belgium was not over the top pumpkin, spice, and heat wasn't a bad sipper.

Punkin belongs in the pie, not in the beer.

There’s a few ladies around here who always try to get me to taste how good the pumpkin ales are. I tried a sip a few years back against my better judgment and had an instant gag reflex. Beer is not meant to taste that way!

A buddy of mine loves the stuff and so I tried it... ONCE.

I agree in that pumpkin belongs in pie :)

I don't generally enjoy the pumpkins, but I do like the Oktoberfest style beers this time of year

As much as I like and drink beer I have never tried a pumpkin beer but that's probably due to the fact that I don't like the flavor of pumpkin. That being said I do enjoy the fact that the craft beer industry has a foothold and is doing well. It's nice to have choices.

Agreed. Why mess up good beer.

Not a fan of fruit and/or vegetable beers, but PumKing by Southern Tier has an interesting flavor.

You nailed it. I buy it by the case tis the season. Shipyard Pumpkinhead is a big favorite. Tastes even better when I'm up in Boston. The bar in Regina's does the cinnamon rim just right ;-)

Couldn't agree more. It categorically sucks. No better way to kill your palate for the entire rest of the night. I love beer, but this - no.

This. Ban Pumpkin beer. Embrace Oktoberfest. This is my favorite time of year beer-wise.

Shiner's Oktoberfest is surprisingly good. Sierra-Nevada's was not my style, though I can see those who like hoppy styles liking it.

Currently have Saranac in the refrigerator "on-deck" circle. Yum!

My wife who typically only likes Amber Bock loves Sierra-Nevada's Oktoberfest.

never been a fan of pumpkin beers, they are always over done or too sweet.

that being said, dogfish head does a good job!

Pumpkin beer sucks, but as mentioned earlier Schlafly does a decent job.

Agree, most pumpkins are not my thing but Dogfish was tasty if you want to have one.

For those that don't like them, don't drink them! Lots of decent beers so you don't have to pain yourself trying them if they're not your thing.

I mostly drink IPAs and mostly local IPAs but that Dogfish is good, not too sweet and it tastes like a well done beer. I know a lot of guys are into porters too and I don't get it, not my thing.
