Custom Steel Fork Recommendations?

Lots of push toward carbon forks nowadays, but carbon forks nowadays are thru-axle and tapered steerer. I need quick-release and straight 1-1/8".

So given that, I'm hoping someone can make me a steel fork. Who's doing the really creative, outta-the-box work these days?

whisky has a fork just like that, straight steerer + quick release. So does ritchey.

Enve makes one. Ritchey makes one (actually two), WoundUp makes one, Whisky (already mentioned) makes one, you can find Reynolds Ouzos... the list goes one and on and on. But it sound like you want a steel fork, irrespective of the availability of carbon ones.

What kind of a fork do you want? Lots of builders can make most any kind of fork, but some builders kinda hang their hat on some particular characteristics and style. Igleheart's segmented forks are cool, no one else does Hunter's supercrown, Joel @ Clockwork does really cool looking forks. . .

I've got a bike with an Igleheart fork, and it's awesome. It wouldn't take much to convince me to do another. But I'm trying to go just a little roadier with this build, and if there were something as stout as the Igleheart, with maybe a solid crown like the semi-sloping style on old road bikes...

Only, wide enough for Bon Jons.

And, disc brake tab.

But, could also mount a long-reach caliper when I want to use my non-disc wheels.

And, it has to make coffee, and play mp3s. No, all seriousness aside, I'm aware I'll probably have to compromise on some things, and I'm not ruling out carbon, but I'd like to see the full range of what's possible.

So, this is good. Keep going! Who else?

Some years back he was going to work up a fork for me for a particular frame, but I ended up going in another direction (carbon). His work is really quite something. Painting and finish perfection is one way to describe it.

Sounds like you want something built around a PBP crown. Provisions for disc adds weight that obviously isn't necessary for a long reach caliper. But, odd requests are the reason for custom.

Here's mine. Yeah, disc bikes used QR skewers for 15 years. But, by that logic why aren't you riding a high wheeler or using spoon brakes. I wanted thru axles and I'm glad to have them. No, no one needs any of this.

I would second this recommendation. He made me a really nice fork.

But if you're just looking for a really nice, basic carbon fork with or w/o fender eyelets and two A-C lengths for short or long reach brakes, the Seven 5e fork is fantastic.

Oh Lordy, now I'm experiencing choice-stress. Thanks y'all for the deluge of suggestions.

I've begun negotiations with Eric Estlund, but the obvious solution to the disc-or-calipers problem is: LOTS of forks!

N+1 could take on a whole new meaning.

pretty much any builder can build you a fork. I was at my LBS and asked if they had any old forks in the back..,sure enough. of course that was a the bike Odyssey.
