Anyone ever retrofit a Boa dial onto their shoes

Just another thought that popped into my head.
Have some velcro that has lost it's gripping power and wondered if a Boa update would be easy to do.

Also wonder if it's easy to find parts to make up a Boa dial system other than tearing apart an older pair of shoes.

I have not done it but I thought at it just like you with a set of old shoes I have moving around. The thing is to get the cable guides thingys stitched to the shoe, same with the like buckle thingy where the dial rest, if you can figure it out that pretty much you can put the thing to any shoe. I even thought in like using rivets instead of stitches.

You'd still need the part the laces hook to -- I'm sure something could be cobbled together but I'm not sure what.

Anecdotal point: I have a set of MTB shoes with BOA laces. Crashed on a sketchy descent and the buckles snapped right off. I was able to replace them (see above) but they sure seem a bit fragile for MTB/Cross/Gravel. I went back to velcro with my next pair of shoes.

That's just the repair / refresh kit with knob, reel and lace. It doesn't have the base for the ratchet.

I'm a bit amazed that there's a market for it. My experience has been that Boa have a lifetime of the base product warranty and they ship the repair kit for free.

You'd also need the rest of the ratchet assembly and the guides for the lace and it would have to be stitched into the shoe. Could be done, but not easily.
