Bare Composites wheels?

CNC Carbon filament wound wheels, owned by racers at a pretty cheap price point. I can't tell what the hubs are, but the spokes are Sapim CX-Ray and the nipples Sapim too.They're $1,500 but I just ordered on the pre-sale for $1,000. Seems to be good value and I'm intrigued by the non-molded carbon. Anybody have thoughts?

Look awesome but for the 100-200g difference, I'll hold onto my HED Jet 6+ that were half the price used. I'm not sure I'd give up my aluminum brake track for 400g, all else being equal (aero, reliability).

It is not possible for a carbon fiber rim to be made without a mold.

It might be possible to make a tubular rim with a shaped foam core and no external mold but I don't think that would even be an advantage.

Filament winding the rims is interesting, I wonder what they are talking about with the molds.

Velocite/Venn uses filament winding method to produce rims. I'm wondering if these rims are produced by Velocite/Venn, which pushes for OEM manufacturing.

Bitex hubs (not necessarily a bad thing), but they picked one of the worst models in their lineup. Probably because they look cool.

That's some of the worst flange spacing I've ever seen if it's correct.

Nothing against Bitex, they make some nice hubs. These aren't the ones I'd choose from their lineup though. Not for any reason at all. Start with garbagetalk like "proprietary" when you are just picking parts from the usual vendors and slapping your label on them is not my idea of a good business model. If you are in it for the long haul you should have no problem telling people where you source your components.

I spoke to the owner regarding the hubs. He said he is happy to upgrade to dt hubs but he mentioned these are on the same weight level as the 180s which would be almost $700 more. I'm waiting on pricing to swap to 240s and he also mentioned he's negotiating with rotor for their new hubs (news to me).

Maybe but 13.8mm center to flange on the RH side is poor, weight means nada if the wheels won't stay true. And for the OP..'only' $1000...on a brand new wheel with a brand new way of making them......good luck.

For right below, tension..at 13.8mm RH center to flange..RH tension will be HIGH, and LH tension will be LOW, very low. Need an OC rim for that C-F..

I’ve been watching them for a while. Very interesting, and nice looking rims. The 4/5 set would look nice on my Parlee.

The site is a little light in detail, which is a little worrisome. I think the 25mm clinchers are 18mm internal, but not entirely sure. What tension are they building to, etc. How do they treat the brake track? I’d expect a bit more info.

I’m waiting to hear about reliability from early adopters and for a different choice of hubs (they are small-batch, I assume they’ll offer better hubs at some point).
