Not a bad article. I was expecting the usual "crazed, out of control bike messengers with no brakes endangering pedestrians and creating traffic hazards" kind of article and while it did allude to some of that I'd say the article in general had a positive bent to it.

Having only been cycling for about 10 years, I still sort of consider myself a newbie, compared to some of the lifelong riders I encounter. But I've been riding a fixie since about the second year I was riding and, with 8 years of fixed riding in my legs, all of this recent hoopla makes me feel like an established old-timer in this sub-element of the sport. But, hey, it's nice to see lots of people discovering the magic for themselves. Although I think its insane for a total newbie to be riding one of these beasts without a front brake. Especially in a place like San Francisco.
