I had an old aluminum mega pro L in that color. Raced on it from1998-2000. Loved it, and the frame was $750. At $5800, I think I like this one less.

For that price I'd expect EPS!!

I think that is just the frameset. Not the bike.

$800 upcharge for a few shots of Mercatone yellow?
That almost makes $2000 extra for some polka dots seem like a relative bargain....
No thanks either way.

Who is the intended target audience for this bike I wonder? Middle-aged weekend warriors who wear pro kit? Seems like Bianchi consistently misses the mark with these heritage reissues. (The Eroica (http://www.bianchiusa.com/bikes/road/vintage/eroica/) is the other one that comes to mind.)

I don't get it either.

A friend of mine had #12 of 101 of the original BIANCHI XL EV2 "PANTANI 101". (http://www.campyonly.com/marcobike.html), which was the real deal and was beautiful, if one was into that sort of thing.

This current release is nothing significant.

just like the poka dots, why not just ask for a bunch of money and hope someone bites. Why not, I am sure it will work out just fine.

That said its one of those nostalgic color schemes, it was ugly then, its ugly now but very awesome kind of thing

whoa whoa whoa.......$5,800 for a fargin' FRAMESET? I don't care if it's made out of compressed unicorn horn, that's just nuts.

reason #17 that I buy used bikes man. You gotta have some $$ to burn if you drop $5,800 on a frameset (or I'm woefully out of touch....cue the "get off my lawn"/retrogrouch commentary)

Ugly to my eyes.

Jeff

I'm wit choo.

It was an ugly bike then, and this one is no better.

It was the rider that made that bike iconic, certainly not the color scheme.

Mmn. My first good bike was a celeste Bianchi in '86 and, uncultured swine that I am, I never understood the love for the yellow/celeste bikes. I fully get that the Giro/Tour double was amazing, and since Pantani was relatively upfront about his drug use and died from it, he's not as contentious as other riders from the period, but... I just never liked the color combination. More power to you if you do. Celeste and shiny silver bits for a metal bike, celeste and black for carbon.

I'm either a classicist or lack vision. One or the other, I guess.

Wow, that is one awesome-looking Bianchi. Love, love, love it!

Maybe I'll buy one used in five years.

Lots of late middle age Italians riding in full Pantani kit will buy this bike-I think that is the market, not the USA.

is that an open mold frame?

Yes, the Specialissima is an open mold frame, just like all Bianchis. This one just has fancy paint.

My personal opinion ok? Bianchi havent been able to get a new classic and legendary bike since the x series and the one that pantani used... how many years ago was that? 15+? They are trying to do that but well... i do not think is going to work again.

It would be nice if it was in aluminum but they'd miss the mamil demographic. The original was a bargain at the time.

That thing needs to be ultra thin walled alu, Electron tubulars, early generation carbon Record and more slope. Lame attempt at a XL EV2 redo, imo. Those frames were more than just paint. And sadly cracked easily.

Remember when I saw the LUNA frame the 1st time.. then started noticing reports that the frames crack..

Seen a few Specialissimas in person. Very nice stuff. They also don't use decals, everything on there is painted. I'm assuming that's the case for this model too.

at least in the pics, nothing screams super-premium quality, atmo. I guess I ain't the target demo.
