I've been trying in vain to find an Enve 1.5" tapered fork for one of my frames and every place I call is out of stock and some are telling me that 1.5" forks, in general, are being phased out of production, across the board, in favor of 1.25" tapered forks. It's all news to me! Anyone else hearing this? -Jeff N.

Complete opposite is true.

1 1/4" are being phased out.

Not sure what's up why you can't find one. I get them all the time and stock them.

Not my impression. Enve's Road Disc TA fork is 1.25" only, as is the GRD. They are clearly moving to 1.25" on new product.

Not sure what the deal is but I just called up Enve and they have them in stock. I just wanted to check before I offer one to you so I can restock.

Certainly isn't going anywhere with the big three manufacturers. If anything, they're going 1.25 to 1.5 rather than 1.125 to 1.5 on the taper.

I also think we will see the tops of steerers getting bigger since they look so spindly these days. I thought we'd see it sooner but I guess the 35mm bar has not fully caught on...

Honestly, how far are we away from 1.5 straight steerers?

Personally, I think a long time away. Like another galaxy. Too many issues with jump up that large. Part of the reason Enve went to the 1.25 for the Road Disc fork is not everyone does 1.5 steerers. We do. But smaller builder don't always offer everything. Look at Pego. He only does 1 1/8" steerer frames. Not everyone believes in tapered or even 1.5 being the way to go. Also when and if it happens, the amount of change and costs would be massive for people who do carbon.

They've been and gone already. Circa 2005 there were quite a few 1.5" straight steerers (on mountain bikes). They didn't last though; can't see them coming to the road!

gotta agree, aesthetically it looks a lot better and 1-1/4 allows for more headset options when building a frame using a 44mm headtube.

would be annoying to see the industry try to phase out 1-1/2 for non-mtb applications (because it probably should never have been phased-in in the first place) but i wouldnt be opposed to it, 1-1/8 and 1-1/4 are perfectly adequate for road/cx purposes.

Honestly, how far are we away from 1.5 straight steerers? Not sure about other Lefty forks, but the stock Oliver Lefty has a straight 1.5" steerer. It's a beast of a steerer.
