View Full Version : NYC Paceline Labor Day Weekend Ride?

OK, so some months ago I started a thread about the fact that I was moving to NYC. Work started essentially in May. Kids finished the school year in DC and then spent time with the grandparents there so moved here in July. Work travel picked up and then vacation, so here we are.

Anyone in NYC interested in a ride either Saturday, Sunday, or Monday morning? I need some introduction to the local riding. I would love to meet the other Paceliners here. I was thinking up to and over the GWB but perhaps not all the way to Nyack and back. I have started a new job so my fitness is so-so. Depending on when we get back to the city, the first round of either coffee or beer is on me. I have the mildest of preferences for Sunday but a much stronger preference for getting a good group.

Who is in?

I might be up for meeting you at the bridge on the NJ side -- We could roll down to river road, and after the climb into alpine you could head back toward the bridge.

I'd be in, sure. Would love to get an early start if possible.

If Nooch is rolling out, I may join for the NJ portion as well if my day is clear.

Regrets... my brother and his new bride are in town. I'll be lucky to squeeze in any riding, I think.

I would be in for the NJ portion. I'm in terrible shape, but it's my neighborhood so if I get dropped it's not like I'm lost!

Looks like some interest coalescing around Sunday early. I will be rolling from 24th Street up the west side. Looks like sunrise is 6:24. I could roll out thereabouts, but can be flexible. As I have never ridden across the GWB, would be happy for some company to show me the best way.

yes to this. Its the guys first time and you guys want to take on the terrible 9W road??!?!?!?!

Definitely has to do river road because its pretty, then Alpine from the bottom (its the only real hill around that part really and its actually a decent climb), then right after that cafe on 9W and through the gravel all the way down to piermont. Coffee in piermont then back (can come back through 9W just to not have to repeat river road but the alpine descent is very nice).

flydhest, I could meet you (and whoever else wants to join) at 23rd and the West Side at 6:30am and guide us to Grant's Tomb to join up with thegunner and whoever else wants to meet up there. Then we'll pick up another group on the NJ side of the bridge and roll down to River Rd.

gimme gypsy any day over bunberry.

Boxer, now. And yes, I agree, though I stopped going/promoting them after learning some things about their inception and subsequent pushing out of part owners (friends of mine). Now they've sold it to one of their barista's and renamed it Boxer Donuts, so now I feel better returning.

Bunburry is just sentimental because I used to sit on Koop's wheel some Friday mornings and go get 'breakfast.'

Jamon Serrano, indeed. But wouldn't it have to be sourced from Irun, Spain? Given that there's no real beef to be had in NYC, or France for that matter. And let's not forget the asthma meds, which can only come all the way from England. Get you TUE's in now, what with all the hills being suggested! And here I was thinking that a muffin and coffee would suffice.

meet ups are usually right before the entrances on either side. you wont miss it since you'll run into a few cyclists standing around and waiting for other people.

also, weather forecast just changed to rain sunday am. is the ride still on?

Yes, of course! I took that picture with my iPhone and then made that post from my iPhone, so I'm not sure why that happened. Let's see if the PC and Windows can fix it.
