Curious if anyone here has used the Redshift shockstop stem and what they think of it? I do a lot of riding on trails that have their share of thick roots as well as pot holes and and uneven pavement to ride over on my Black Mountain monster cross. Reports I've read are by and large very positive, just wondering if anyone here have used it.

I don't know about that one but 25-30 years ago before suspension forks became common I tried a couple of forks that flexed vertically to absorb shocks. They did a little bit but they weighed quite a bit, cost more, and felt a little loosey-goosey if you pulled on the bars while standing to pedal hard. For me lower pressure in my front tire worked better overall.

it is a potential solution with some caveats.

you will need to play ith the elastomers so the stem "flexes" at the impact level you desire and then get used to that sensation so you can maintain control of the front end. from the girvin flex stem of the 80's to the specialized headtube design it will take some impact shock away from your elbows/shoulders

BUT

you will need to remember that the headtube, fork and front wheel are stilltaking a hit even though you may not feel it as much. meaning you still need to pick a line and lift the front and float over imperfections

if the fork was suspended like a mtb, you could hit the obstacles head-on and hard. no big deal. this is not the case with a stem or headtube solution

A good friend put one on his do-it-all-adventure-bike and really likes it. He's not on the forum, but you can reach out to him on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/dirty_sundays/) or blog (Dirty-Sundays (http://www.dirty-sundays.com)) if you want a first-person perspective:

As good or better than Specialized or Trek approach to front end damping?
