The conditions were pretty grim, as the ride took place down in southern MD, right after Ernesto passed through. The storm left downed trees and power lines, flooding, and debris all over the roads. We were only able to manage a bit over 14mph average speed for the whole ride. It was good base training for me though, as I rode pretty much the whole ride in my small chainring. There were some spots where we wished we were on our mountain bikes.

Here are a few pics:

Wife, on her Fierte at around mile 80. The downtube looks like a salad.

Pausing during a rare break in the rain.

The sun came out at the end.

The Fierte bore the conditions quite well, and needed a hose down and minor cleaning and re-lubing. My Trek, on the other hand, needed more work. I pulled the BB and about a pint of water gushed out. Those boys need to leave a drain hole, or something.

My wife was determined to ride a century this year, but due to her new job she was only able to put in around 80 miles in all of July, and around 120 in all of August. Kudos to her for pulling off 101 with that little training, and only 3 rest stops during the ride.

nice pics. you're lucky to be in a marriage where you can ride together.

oh, and you might search the cyclingnews archives for an article about how trek team mechanics set up the frames for the discovery boys. if i recall correctly, one of the first things they do is drill a hole in the bb shell.

Great pics, very cute couple. And congrats to her-- her first century in the RAIN? What a stud-ette.

congratulations to both of you. Isn't it great having a wife that rides? My wife did her first century down in NC with Pete and SPOKES' club. It started raining then as well, so it was just the Doctor, SPOKES, and me. Plus, we got losta t mile 80 so she cranked out 122 miles instead of 100.

Women cyclists . . . we need more of them.

Yep she is! Here's one of the tough spots we had to ride through:

Well it's turning out to be a double-edged sword, because there are some rides I want to do (like the Civil War Century) that she doesn't want to do, and I get grief if I get too many more miles in than she does, lol.

Generally it's pretty nice thought. :D

LOL! Thanks! She's 35. I'll pass the compliment along.

Dude, you are a lucky man.

I live in Boulder County, and I can't find a cutie who rides.

She's adorable, and convincingly looks 22.

Congratulations to her for a challenge realized, and to you for having such fine taste.

Congrats to the wife (and you, too)! Especially considering the conditions and not-so-much base mileage, her ride was impressive. Great pics too!

Great ride! Especially that smile at the end!
I'm sure there will be many more centuries in your future.

Ride on!
