View Full Version : Ultegra 6500 hoods- what is close enough?

A friend getting back into riding has good working 6500 levers, but the hoods are shredded/gone. We currently have the levers wrapped in hockey tape.

I am well aware that finding original or proper replacement hoods is nearly impossible. Question is, will any other commonly available replacement hood work "good enough"? Poor fit, trimming required, etc is just fine if there is something out there that will basically just stay in place on the lever.

This is a budget op for sure so anything that costs more than a few dollars is going to lose to hockey tape.

Ideas?

For what lever? That's the only company I know that makes aftermarket brake hoods. 6500 is pretty old but you might get lucky

Pretty sure nothing comes close. I've bought about a half dozen for folks now.
I'm on a bit of a Sugru rush right now. Would that be one level up from hockey tape?
