I now own one of Mr. Pegoretti's wonderful machines - Mxxxxxxo in "conn rust" finish  - and I want some righteous cages to hold my bottles.

I've used Arundel cf cages on one of my bikes for more than a decade and they're great, but I wonder what other good-looking, secure cages are out there.

Show me some images and entertain my Friday afternoon, please.

TIA,
J

If it's the rust finish I'm thinking of, a King Ti cage would look pretty sharp.

I have one. While it does hold a water bottle tight, it's that wee little bit harder to get a bottle in there.

Arundel SS cages. They not only look great but hold a bottle from flying out if you do a jump or hit a bump unlike some of the others listed.

Another vote for King Iris. Their ti's are great too, but the iris holds great and is the best looker of them all, IMO.

FWIW, mine make a heart shape on my old Ciocc, just to further the love.

One caution about the King Iris cages, if you use Camelbak Podium bottles, they don't really play well together. King standard cage works fine with them though.

I'm a fan of the Specialized Rib Cage II. I like the aesthetic and I've found them to be very secure.

I added an extra x, my bad. It's the Mxxxxxo LOL

Originally it was called the Marcelo, but x's have been substituted in recent years

These are by far the most elegant cages to my eye for a nice road bike. King's for MTB's.

+ 100.

Arundel all the way. CF on two bikes. SS on steel bike with silver components.

For carbon I like the bontrager RL cages but I really think they only look good on carbon race road bikes.

I like the Blackburn Chicane on my CSI. I thought the King ti looked kind of clunky on a lugged steel frame. Bottle goes in and out smoothly, too.

Steel bike, I'd agree that any King cage would be great.

You did say "metal" bike, and I'll have to depart there. I've had an aluminum and a titanium bike with Arundels, and they looked great. I definitely think that ti or aluminum bikes can take either King or carbon cages.

That said, my weight weenie days are over, and it's all King cages from here on out. The exception may be if I get back into road racing (very unlikely) and get an aero carbon bike. I don't see being able to splurge for one, but I'd do Arundels if I could afford them.

Although I agree with the King/Arundel/Nitto comments, for a 1980-1995 vintage steel bike, Elite Cuisi does it for me.

Do you have the issue that I have with the Iris. That is its difficult to get a bottle in and out compare to the standard King Cage design.

King iris ss cages are what I had on it. I think they match the aesthetics and hold an average sized bottle with no issues. If you really want to splurge you can go king ti, but I still prefer the iris on this particular frame:beer:

I love king cages. On steel bikes the standard ones, the TI ones don't look good on skinny tube bikes imo.

On bikes with black components or carbony bikes I do like the Arundels

I've been using these bottles for the past 3 months, but I haven't had that problem yet. They will probably get pretty messed up once the weather turns though.

I find the Iris tighter than the carbon cages on my other bike, but I don't find it difficult to remove or replace the water bottle
(and I never had a bottle pop-out when hitting a rough patch of pavement, but have with the carbon cages).

And they look great on my Ti:

That's one thing I love about the Iris--little tougher to use, but holds the bottles in there TIGHT when things get rough. I've done some pretty teeth chattering rides and have yet to lose a bottle. Can't say the same thing about most other cages I've had.

Salsa Nickless is an oft overlooked cage. Really good design. Looks right on a lot of bikes.

At one time Electra made an excellent copy of the Nitto R. Not sure if they still do.

This is easy -

Steel = King Stainless cages

Carbon = Various Arundel carbon cages

Titanium = Carbon or slim Ti cages

Aluminum = No cage (If you're riding aluminum, you're more than likely a masochistic bad-ass. Why would you need water???)
