I love this: "If there’s 30 second descent on one bike and it’s a 23 second descent on another, if you’re enjoying the descent, wouldn’t you rather the 30 second ride?"

The geek in me thinks that there is at least one other way to look at the question:

But the faster descent may be much more fun than the slower one, and by definition the 23 second bike is faster than the 30 second bike. If the degree of fun as a function of speed goes up exponentially, then the faster bike might be fun overall, even if you experience it for less time. (We'll leave the issue of non-linear time for another day.)

thanks for posting, good read. I've been to the Walnut Creek location, fun place to visit, bought a book, a hat and some "thumb covers" for colder weather, they work well.

the long chainstays still don't look quite right to me, but that's aesthetics, I'm sure the work fine. Nice quality bikes in general if you like the old timey stuff, the ones I've seen in the wild always garner attention.

He's 100% right about the XT bike for $750 though, I couldn't see myself spending $3k on one of his bikes with friction shift and alex rims, so I'd have to go to $5k and completely customize, which ain't happening..

Good read, thanks for sharing!

Guess I should go start a coffee shop in Silverton...before the bearded masses arrive ;)

It is a nice area, joking aside.
