Has anyone done this?

I'm wondering if it's possible, and what the levers look like under the rubber covers.

It's for a neo-retro build I'm doing, where I want DT levers, but prefer 9 or 10s.

Find Dt shifters, the last version, 8 speed with *3* G springs.
Then have your favorite shop order the 10 speed indexed ring that goes in the barend shifter (12$). Bingo! Old school looks, modern 10 sp function!

It would be nice to even find reasonably priced a set of NOS 8s levers!

I've been trying on ebay for months, but without paying more than a set of 10s Barcons would cost me, I've not found any.

thats what I did (for 9 speed). The parts for either 9 speed or 10 speed are easliy available via the internet (or I am sure LBS). I picked up a used but very good condition set of DT shifters and replaced the index ring easily myself. Checkout the Campy website for the exploded illustrations of the DT shifter mechanism for help in identifying parts. (see page 8 of the PDF at the URL below. Part #SL-RE119 is your index gear in that pic. for the part number for the 9 and 10 speed index gear just go to the bar end pics. 9 speed is SL-RE219 and 10 speed is SL-RE319).

I didn't replace the 3 G springs because the DT shifters I found were not used much, but you might want to order those along with the index ring. They are relatively cheap too and nice to have around.
Just my 2 cents.

Another option is to use Shimano 9-spd DT shifters (much easier to find than Campy) and a JTek conversion gizmo. (http://jtekengineering.com/shiftmate.htm) In your case you would use #3 (or #4 if you have an older R-der)

YEAH!!!! :D

I got a set of NOS Synchro2 levers!

All I have to do now is get the 10s insert (I hope they are the 3 G-spring version)... Anyone know an online store that has them?

My Record group thanks you all!

Looks like Airbomb has the springs, maybe they also carry the ring:
