Nice find, and a good overview of a stage race.

Thanks. Fun to watch. Pretty comprehensive.
A couple of points:
Around 1:30 he states that originally, participants consisted of individuals, the "tourist routiers", and riders on teams either "organized according to bicycle brand names" or organized by Desgrange himself. I am pretty sure that Desgrange insisted on it being an individual race, and that riders were not allowed to work for each other. He does say that after the 1930's "there was no place for individuals in the post-1930's Tour". I am thinking that is when riders were allowed to work together. I am also pretty sure that national teams featured in the Tour for a number of years at some point.

This would be really good for folks who "don't get it" too.

I believe it said that it was after 1930 that Desgrange organized the teams as they were phasing out solo riders.

Fun video although:

The green jersey does not go to the best sprinter.

The polka dot jersey does not go to the best climber.

I have never seen an eight man breakaway with all riders from the same team.

It is illegal to ride back on a course to help a teammate. Or for any reason.
