View Full Version : Long sleeve jerseys for the summer?

Does anyone have recommendations for a long sleeve jersey for women that is designed for summer use? I live in the great state of Texas where, as you might expect, is extremely hot in the summer. I want the UV protection, but don't want to burn up, either.

Or should I suck it up and start my rides at 3:45am???

Any comments or tips appreciated.

Long-sleeve jersey: http://www.boure.com/8605WWH.html.

I prefer a short-sleeve jersey with arm coolers like these: http://www.boure.com/8440.html.

Per the recommendation here, I tried a Voler jersey last season. Feels very light and keeps my arms from getting burnt up. Two thumbs up from me.

I have a few of the long sleeve Boure SPF jerseys. Quite cool in the summer heat. Both Voler and Boure use the same fabric. I think that Voler might sew the Boure jerseys.

I bought some sun sleeves from the LBS last summer. Bontrager from the Trek store and Specialized from the other guy. I won't ride without them now. Once I'm out on the road they "disappear" and I don't notice them. Added bonus, squirt some water on them for instant cool off.

I'd suggest sunsleeves, as well. I use the Pearl Izumi ones & they are really good in the hot & dry. They really do make me feel cooler when moving. Hot & humid, well, they feel too warm for me.

also consider light arm sleeves. you can get them wet and put them on. I have found this much better than long sleeves.

I have some white LG arm screens, to me they feel hotter than bare arms unless they're soaked.

I overheated really badly in some 90* weather last year wearing them, but reading another thread that may have been because it was so humid.

Number of manufacturers are making those arm screens these days. Would be a solid solution that doesn't necessitate ditching the short sleeve jersey rotation.

I will wear a long sleeve jersey on my longer rides but I've bern wanting to try out some arm screens. Sounds like a better option than having a dedicated LS summer jersey.

arm screens can be very affordable if you go with a non-cycling brand. friends swear by random packs they get on amazon, a la: https://www.amazon.com/AmaziPro8-Protection-Whistle-Climbing-activities/dp/B01FSCY654/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1500923849&sr=8-2&keywords=arm+screens+uv

Big fan of the Boure long sleeves.
At least here in upstate NY they get used as much or more than any other jerseys that I own.

I have used the Columbia Omni-Freeze long sleeve products as base layer, and wear short sleeve jersey on top for pockets and additional sun blocking on body.

Voler and PI sun sleeves here.

Good stuff, controls both UV and radiant heat gain.
