another one of those "unwritten rules" I think.racing only starts when they hit the champs..and i doubt any sprinters teams will let landa loose and you know ag2r wont.so I highly doubt it..but who knows

Great question...wonder if the 2 teams have yaked about this..and Bardet and Landa....maybe time bonus? Or small split at finish..I say let 'em race..

In '05, Vinokourov attacked and won solo to take bonus seconds and go from 6th to 5th in the GC.

Last year, there was a 10-second gap between 35th and 36th place on the final stage, but you can damn well bet that Ag2R is going to make sure that Bardet isn't behind any splits.

On the final stage, none of the top teams or sprinters teams will allow anyone to get away on their own. Ten times the horsepower wins every time on a flat stage. Also this year, Sky needs Landa to help protect Froome in the pack. Not a chance.

And that's why I'd be surprised if the French EVER allow an ITT on the last day of the Tour ever again.

Might coulda been a different outcome if Fignon had chosen to use an aero helmet and aero bars. Oh, and cut his ponytail.

That Tour end was the one that got me excited about bike racing.

To the OP's point, back in the day, seems like there used to be some sprint points out on the run-in to Paris that might have animated the bunch and could have made a difference in the placings this year, had they been there now.

The last stage might be ceremonial, but the loops of the Champs Elysees are nasty and fast. The uphill is tougher than it looks on TV and the downhill is fast and the cobblestones are a rough surface. No one ever gets away but the power and speed are amazing.

I was there in 2001 before they looped around the Arc de Triomphe. The sound of the speed of the peloton is amazing.
