Police bike auction?

I just missed our local police bike auction. I didn't know about it, and found out about it 2 days after it happened. Wondering if I should put it on the calendar for next year.

Anyone have luck scoring a decent rig from one of these?

There are some deals to be had if you look. A friend picked up a tweaked out rattlecaned 1972 Paramount for 25.00 at one.

Are they the unclaimed bikes from the refuse of the streets or actual police issued bicycles? Either or could be worth a look. The cops around here ride surly and trek, and the streets are littered with department store bikes, but the occasional diamond in the rough is out there. I've seen a homeless looking dude riding the famous fade Klein that is two sizes too small for him recently. Doubt he knows how many beers just the painted stem could buy!
