On my ride today I accidentally scrapped my Record derailleur on a cement bank wall. Just a small cosmetic scrape, but enough to annoy me. My question is, what might I do to buff or remove the scrapes? Assuming the polished metal portion is Ti or Aluminum, what would best remove the scratches, e.g., emory cloth, buffing wheel, etc.?

From an anal, bike mechanic... thanks guys...

You can easily use sandpaper of decreasing roughness then polishing compound to smooth out the scrape. The aluminum is however anodised, so the original sheen is forever gone now. Me? I leave the marks on as badge of honor that denote a bicycle which is used.

Thanks George... wasn't sure if it was aluminum or Ti. You're right about the badge honor and it is rather minor. May just do a little buffing and let it go.

Cross season's starting so sell it on eBay to someone who won't care about cosmetics and buy a new one.
