Hi,

Does anyone remember or have access to the price for a CSI frame with a steel fork back then? Standard geometry.

Was full retail the general price back then or was discounting prevalent?

I worked at a serotta shop in 99. I can't remember specifically but my guess is 2199 frame and fork. I hop someone can dig up and old price list.

No one ever discounted a Serotta. That would be a great way to have them stop selling you bikes. Even employee purchase was not much of a discount.

I have a 1997 csi. Purchased in Memphis, TN in January 1997. Came with the F1 fork-- so it wasn't a steel fork. Paid $1800 for frame and fork.

Bikepedia shows a complete 1996 Record equipped CSI retailing for $3425. Colorado Cyclist was selling Record 8 build kits early in 1997 for $1595. Spec differs slightly, but that puts the frame and fork in the $1800 range in '96/'97. Surely went up a bit after that. Bicycling magazine used to have a buyer's guide issue every year that listed retail prices of bikes and high end framesets. As I recall it was not nearly as comprehensive in the late 90s as it had been 4 or 5 years earlier. I'm not sure I have one as late as 1998.

But the dealers, or, at least, my dealer, made a fairly affordable total package as a complete bike, so, in a sense, the frame and fork were discounted. I know that I was pretty surprised at the price quoted for an Ultegra Colorado III, and jumped on it.

Yes, there were package deals but the bill always showed the discount off of group sets, wheels, labor, ANYTHING except the frame and fork (if the fork was Serotta).

The factory was very strict about pricing.

Yes, Serotta didn't care if you you discounted the grouppo or wheels. You didn't want to get caught discounting a frame/fork.

The $1,850 being quoted sounds about right.

I bought my CSI in 1996, and I paid about $1,800 ($1,750 maybe). No discussion of discounts as I bought just the frame and steel fork.

I bought my CSI in '96 as well and the shop put Record 8 on it. I can check on the exact price when I get home but it was in line with what the two guys above remember.

Found receipt for my 95 1/2 CSI: $1425.
Frame had running change of ovalized TT and mix of lugged and fillet brazed construction.
Matching Silca pump added $40.
With Phil front hub (I had to wait for the possibly only Phil Campy 8 rear), Record 8, Chris King, Reflex, etc: $3383.

Late '98 CRT was $1208; $100 extra for older color and matching Silca pump was only $25.

Both from Bicycle Specialties in DOwners Grove, Il.
Still kicking myself for letting them go, especially the Phil/Campy 8 wheels.
