i dislike ________ vs _______ threads because it's a silly way to go about thinking about gear. i think its more important to look at yourself and ask the right questions, like:
what do i want from this piece of gear, what conditions will i be using it in, what kind of rider am i, what life span do i want from the gear, will it be for a specific purpose or general use, what is my budget, what are my opinions about gear have used in the past, what paramaters feel 'good' to me, what environment am i riding in, what are my phyiscal capabilities, what is about my ego?

if you answer those questions .. then choosing what's best for you is easy. just taking one piece of gear and putting it versus another.. doesn't get you any meaningful answers and is more about other people's feelings and beliefs.
the more you know about yourself as a rider.. the more obvious and pain free the selection ...and the more likely you will pick the 'right' thing.

as you ride your bike, learn how to qauntify what sensations you prefer over others and try and learn how to discern where those qualities that feel good come from. same with the things that you don't enjoy. there are no real answers in ______ vs. _______.

riding is thinking. the best questions about gear come after you are able to define what exactly you want from the gear. the more specific you are, the better you will do for yourself.

i can't believe you would say that. i would never have other fun. this fun fits better. the other fun is just an imitation of fun. unless you are a clydesdale because the other fun is more fun for them. this fun is better for little guys.

Swoop - despite all the goose goods flying overhead I hear yah man.

I choose a quill for the Vanilla because that was the right thing for what I had in mind. The bike will be with me for many yrs. and I expect it to see much rough duty. While threadless design is cool for school it also has less function as you drill down on what I do with this bike eg. racer brakes, expectation to move the stem often over the yrs., tolerates abuse / crashes, no M5 fixing bolts!!! etc. etc. The last thing on my mind was the "look" of a quill. Rather the goods fit my needs and luckily I've been around long enough to appreciate the durable function of quill stems recently re-inforced by experiences at the track where changing bars and bar height happens frequently. Those itty bitty bolts in threadless stems start to talk back dewd! HEP!!

I do not always think about requirements as you've outlined before leaping to the solution. My faith in Ultegra/DA Chorus/Record PhilWood/ CK solutions are nearly blind because these suppliers are reliable if not my loyal "go to" solutions whereever possible...they never let me down. Kneejerk? Yes. Safe bet? 99.9999% of the time yes.

Is it naptime yet?
