I may want to use my chorus crank for cross if I can find some rings...Who makes them and where can I find them? Maybe a 38/48?

I ended up with a T.A. crank for this reason. Good luck finding a chainring smaller than 39 for Chorus cranks. You can go with a mid, or long cage derailuer on the back, with a 13/29 cassette. That will allow you to use the 39 small ring on the Chorus crank. Because the 48 is easy to find.

so did mine, as have all the dozens we've used/bought
through the years. i have about 30-40 nos 48t richie
rings that come off as soon as the box is opened atmo.
we replace with 42t or 44t.

48 big ring that is. He could keep the Chorus crank and have a 48/39 and 13/26 rear. But that's using anything but a short cage deraileur (sp?).

I guess I didn't explain that very well the first time.

I'm currently racing a 46/36, which seems to work well in the front range of CO. I only suggested a 48 because I think that's the smallest Campy chainring. But I don't know for sure....

I only used the 48 when training, never in races. I just stayed in the 38 and slowly plowed through the mud. I was actually thinking of just using one ring in the front and a ring guard.

If you're planning on using a standard 135 bcd Campy crank, then 39t is the smallest you can go. If you want smaller, then you'll need to get a compact crank with the 110bcd. With a 110bcd crank, you can go as low as a 34t, although TA makes a 33t that will fit.

TA does a 46 or 48 in 135 mm BCD.
