Surprised no one has posted this yet... Looks like Mike is prototyping a new 650b with discs! I think enough folks have asked about using a front bag, that will be considered for the final for sure...

I'll definitely give one a shot.

I love my Monstercross, so why not.

This is cool! I already have a bike like this, but I'm intrigued to try one anyway.

I definitely love what Mike is laying down!

ALTHOUGH:
This rear drop out looks kinda haggard. Woof.

If I end up with another road type bike this is along the lines of what I would do. Nice.

That makes me want one of these frames just a bit more than before. Very cool, though don't care about the 650b stuff...

I really want to try a 650B bike, I really like that and I'd seriously consider one except...discs. I know I'm in the minority but I have a less than zero desire for them.

I really like what Black Mtn is doing frame wise but both of their current models have 'deal breaker' specs so I guess one is just not in my future. :(

This gets me excited for the prospect of my 650 build.

I like Black Mountain. Wish he would offer frames with less stack and more reach though. Don't fit me.

I'm not a fan of disc brakes on a steel bike because of the extra weight on an already heavy bike.

I am glad more of these bikes are being built.

I think I prefer the endpoint hunter gatherer though. More trail, MIUSA, TA. I also don't like the fork on this at all but I know this is just a proto.

How do these others compare to a soma wolverine?

Is it me or is this a contemporary incarnation of the much desired bridgestone XO1?

Could be!

FWIW Mike seems really open to input on this project. I've made a few suggestions and I think it's helpful at this point. The framesets aren't due until the spring, so we have some time to give him our wish lists.

Hopefully, he'll keep this "value" priced theme going as well.

The Monstercross rides really well and I'm having a blast on mine this summer.

the Endpoint will likely be almost twice as much as the Black Mountain if pricing holds true (not sure if the disc mounts/thru axle will raise the price much)... looks like a nice bike though...

Segmented fork is dope. Rear dropouts are gross.

I absolutely love my Monster Cross. Most fun I've ever had on a bike,at 72 I figured it would be the last new frame I would ever "need" to buy, it does everything really well. Thanks for nothing fourflys, I just added another thing to my bucket list and to think that list was just about completed.

My Monster Cross with Soma C-Line 700x38c Tires, pretty much the sweet spot for riding in the city and occasional dirt excursions to get to the other side.

I do what I can, my friend... :D

Looking forward to getting by the Black Mtn shop when I'm out for vacation in August...

Rear dropouts are gross.

All the ugly of the Salsa Alternator and none of the versatility. I don't see what these offer that a Paragon option doesn't.

My Monster Cross with Soma C-Line 700x38c TiresBob, can you please tell me the actual width of those tires? I'm trying to decide between 35s and 38s (actually Paselas but those should be pretty similar) for a bike and the real width would be a great help.

I'm trying to decide between 35s and 38s (actually Paselas but those should be pretty similar) for a bike and the real width would be a great help. Both of those tires are great, it's a coin flip though I prefer the Soma version that are slightly wider.

Using calipers I get 37.05 on A-23 rims. There are some for sale at a good price on Ebay, good seller,I've purchased from them before. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Soma-C-Line-Folding-Tire-700x38-Black-Skinwall-Road-Fixed-Urban-Bike-/361965822819?epid=821572049&hash=item5446d82363:g:gn4AAOSw8lpZNyY0

And Panaracer Pasela Protite, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Panaracer-Pasela-Protite-Skinwall-700x-25-28-32-35c-Flat-Guard-Folding-Bike-Tire/371749492749?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=640737785785&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Since I am really contemplating, something along these lines I ask again how do these compare to say the Soma Wolverine, Salsa Fargo etc?

What others should I be looking at?

Here is my take whenever a Black Mtn is compared to a similar priced bike... If you read the history on Mike Varley's blogs, this is a bike he put a tremendous amount of thought and work into. And Mike rides the bikes he sells, and that means a ton to me.

This is great news. If the Monstercross fits 27.5x2.2" tires, the Warbird will be going bye-bye.

I am not sure I need 650b and disks, but I am not sure Mike is totally on board with it either. He does seem to be open to trying it though.

I am running 700x50 Continental Travel Contacts on my Monster Cross and it turns it a great 29er.

I am liking the versatility so much of the MC that I may need to add(if that even makes sense) one of his Road bikes now that he making a 64cm size.
