Hey Folks,

I've got a fun wheelbuild for a vintage Dutch Bike.

36hole 3x (front) / 36hole 3x coaster (rear) laced to these rims (https://www.dutchbikebits.com/wheels-hubs-rims/traditional-bicycle-wheel-rims)

Two questions:

1. Should I be using washers on the inside of the rims at the spoke hole?
2. KFG?

Thanks!

Unless the nipple hole is really big, no but they wouldn't hurt. But make sure they conform to inside of rim we'll. I'm guessing 120kgf but over to Ergott. I'm guessing.

Are you using 13 gauge spokes? If so, tension should be a bit higher, like 27 on a Park tensiometer.

In my experience, the use of nipple washers depends on the rim; some have large holes, or less 'sharply-defined' holes compared to an aluminum rim (if that makes sense), i.e: the hole drilling is a bit vague, or sits at the crest of the rim profile, so it seems susceptible to having a spoke pull through.

Also, if you're building to a true steel rim, I've sometimes found them really hard to true, like a bad hop that won't go away, though this isn't a huge problem without rim brakes.

This helps a lot folks, Thank you!

PS. You're right, they're really hard to true + round. Fun, quick project though.
