View Full Version : OT (but not 100% so): What shorts do you motorcyclists wear?

With the hot weather upon us, I've been wondering if there's something better for me to use on the moto than my oldish cycling shorts, which is what I've been using on my longer rides. (this would be for use under my Motoport Kevlar mesh pants)

There are dedicated moto-shorts out there (e.g. http://motoskiveez.com/ ) but I'm wondering if they're that much better than regular cycling shorts.

TIA

I had a pair and hated them. The pad was like a diaper and in spite of the marketing not better placed than cycling shorts.

I have been in the habit of wearing some merino long johns (super light) so my legs don’t stick the inside of my gear and the merino is light enough as to not get hot.

I'd ditch the old cycling shorts just because of the chamois and its moisture retention. my brother (6 time iron butt finisher) wears wicking boxer briefs and t-shirt under his suit...i think they're the nike dri-fit or something like that.

I use an Ultimate Beadrider; it really helps keep the undercarriage cooler and drier.

REI wicking stretchy boxers if you don't want something more acceptable if you drop your outer wear.

I use these Champion C9 Powercool briefs:

They are comfy and reasonably priced. They also have a mesh version for the same price.

Wool, wool, and more wool. Smartwool boxer briefs primarily.

I don't wear anything special under my leathers, just normal underwear. I did try cycling shorts once but I disliked them.

If you're wondering, I do wear leather jacket and pants regardless of the temperature. They are a bit warm at slow speed but once the pace picks up I'm comfortable.

Well, headed out Sunday for 4500 miles on the Motorcycle+Bicycle, so this is apt!

I go with ex-officio boxer briefs that I can sink wash in a hotel, and Beadrider mentioned above to encourage air circulation.

Tops I wear Underarmor heatgear shirts.

If it is cool, I wear LD Comfort long base layer, or Warmnsafe heated pants liners if it is really cold.

Or you can just ride like this for 100 miles like I did last Friday :) No problem with my butt. Now my calves were sore for a few days though!

Thanks for the advice guys. I swung by Target tonight and by coincidence they had a bunch of Champion C9 stuff on sale with big reductions, so I bought several boxer-briefs and splurged on some tops too.

(sorry, no pics :D )
