Compatability question

My 6500 shifters finally gave out. I have a 9 spd XT rear derailleur with a triple front with a 9 spd cassette. Can upgrade to a 10 spd cassette and chain with 5700 triple shifters will this work? From what I read Tiagra 4700 shifters wont work with the rear derailleur.

How about some used 9 speed Ultegra or 105 brifters?

shimano road 10s sti shift shimano MTB 9s rear ders fine and dandy for 10s. BUT need a road triple front der..either '9s' or '10s'. 6500 front der should work fine.

Thanks, I have all that. Already have 10 speed cassette and chain, so I figure I might as well "upgrade". I can use my 9 speed stuff on another bike I have.
