View Full Version : Does anyone recall the online shop that had the annual Surly blowout sale?

I thought I saw the thread in question here on this forum.

An online shop carried Surly frames and complete bikes in most models and sizes and once a year, they had a huge 50% off sale on their frames. It was probably several years ago that I saw the thread. Anyhow, my buddy wants a new bike, and I suggested he try to snag a Surly Crosscheck at a great pride and I could build it for him using my spare parts.

If anyone remembers the shop or the thread, please let me know. Much appreciated.

My memory of it is a little fuzzy.. but I recall it being just the Fat bikes.. and it was Surly that was discounting the frames.. so the prices were available through all the retailers. I could definitely be remembering that wrong, though.

EDIT: This is what I was remembering: forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=178776 (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=178776)

Could be different than what you are asking about, though.

Thanks nighthawk, but that wasn't it. I found that thread whilst doing the "search" as well. During the search, I think I found that maybe forum member Bobswire was somehow involved. I recall his seafoam green crosscheck was one of the reasons I was tempted to getting one of these for myself, especially when the frameset was on sale for something like $250 (or less).

Paging @bobswire, does any of this ring a bell? TIA.

Was it Universal Cycles??

They are peddling some cheap cheap Surly frames/goodies. But only select bikes..
https://www.universalcycles.com/company.php?category=119&Company=Surly&order=

Also not 50% off.. It would be nice to pick up a Pug or 1x1 frame on the cheap!! :D

i think you might be referring to the "get em while they're fat" sale: http://surlybikes.com/blog/post/get_em_while_theyre_fat

Universal Cycles will slash prices on old stock bikes just to clear them out. If you're lucky and patient you can get some great deals. I bought a fully built brand new 2015 Salsa Fargo in December for $1,000.

I remember bicycleoutfittersindy usually had a big sale. I don't think it was ever 50% off, but 25% at least.

More recently, 365cycles had a big discount as well. But I think Surly/QBP put a stop to all of that. I don't think there are any online retailers offering discounts, much less, willing to ship frames.
