Sure, real men ride sew-ups but I'm looking for clinchers for upcoming cyclocross...So what are you riding?

It's usually wet, grassy, slick, and muddy where I ride...that being my yard. It's kinda' a big yard.

Your suggestions are most welcome.

I was foolin' around with Ritchey Cross clinchers and they seemed to work real well. When I make it to the Cross Worlds, I'll give you an update.

Dbrk,

The Tufo Tubular/Clinchers are awesome if You want to ride a clincher rim but want the feel of a tubular.

For a pure clincher go Michelin.

I had the same question at the beginning of last cx season. Had a lot of people saying try the Michelin Mudd 2's. I've been extremely happy with them.

I don't know if they are still available but I'm using geax blades in a 33mm. They stick like glue and roll quickly. Not great in deep mud but wonderful in the part frozen glop I ride in.

you owe it to your self to try the vittoria xg cross, it's the first truly new cross tire to come out in a long time

My friend, Michelin Mud tires are not only fat and round and smooth, but have the best tread I have used as well. They corner in dirt, grass, and even mud. They also help you ride off-camber sections fairly well..It is the Portland tire of choice for most of the season.
People also seem to like those cool silver vittorias as well.

I had some Muds and changed to Schwalbe Racing Ralphs. I have been using thee Racing Ralphs for a season now and like them better than Muds in all butd real slop.

They seem to run smoother and have just as much grip.

I like the Muds because of their large air volume- they are nominally a 32 width but when compared to other 32's they seem more like a 35- and the best in mud- shed very well. don't like the new vittorias.

in the rare event i use clincher cross tires, most of the time it is the muds. they are by far the best tire ever on wet off-camber grass and silty mud. however, i've found in early season sticky peanut butter mud, they don't clear well at all, pack-up and become very heavy and slow. Once they are packed, transitioning on to pavement is treacherous. in those conditions i opt for a traditional arrow tread (Griffo, Tufo, Vittoria) because they clear mud so much faster. that's the rub with cross, choosing the correct tire and pressure for the course is part of the game. the nice thing about clinchers is they are cheap and easy to change. last year, Adam Craig used clinchers all season long. I believe Tim Johnson did too.
