Noticed the other day while climbing that my Garmin 810 keep pausing, even though I was moving. The speed it was marking was all over the place, it go from 2mph to 8mph then back to 2mph. I’ve done this climb multiple time and hover around 4mph, so knew something was wrong. Finally narrowed it down to the speed/cadence sensor, I have the older style GSC10 sensor.

Can it be re-calibrated?
Can I just use the cadence and use the 810 GPS speed?
Should I just forget about it and buy a new one?

Thanks,

Nick

Change the battery - or just pull it and replace it
Can just use cadence, but actual speed may be off if going under lots of trees
The new ones don't use a magnet, don't need any adjustment and work really well

Hope this helps!

The GSC 10 is no longer made. I tried to find one last year for a new bike. Garmin's new speed sensor straps onto a hub, which did not appeal to me. So I went with the Wahoo Blue SC sensor - same configuration as the GSC 10.

But replace the battery first, and check the alignment with respect to the magnet.

After two GSC-10 failures, I went with the Bontrager and never looked back.

I had the erratic speed happen recently on a bike with a GSC 10 and found the magnets were out of alignment with the unit and an adustment fixed it.
