Rivendell has designed some good ones. How big do you want. I have a Riv Hoss that is about as big as I can imagine using.

I like carradice bags, but they are a bit floppy for off-road. I use the SQR quick release mount and that helps a lot. I haven't used a rolltop seatbag like Revelate.

Revelator bags are quite popular and well thought out if you are referring to large bags not using a rack.

consideration should be given to the set-up of the bike, and the size. generally, most all of the options work if you have a larger bike with a decent amount of seatpost showing and plenty of room above the rear wheel, but if you are like me and ride size 50cm frames, there is a lot less available space in the area between the saddle and the rear tire, so not all solutions will work.

can you post a pic of the bike you plan to use it on, and intended use?

The Acorn I have on the back of my Ahearne is really nice. On that bike.

but I wouldn't want it on my Waterford (or any other bike I have)...

I had a revelate bag and it was nice, great construction, can put a ton of stuff. However I did not like that you can't compartmentalize so I got rid of it. I now have an acorn (got it from the forum, great deal). Its a nice bag, a bit heavier and everyone knows how hard is to get these acorn bags. I think I would probably get a carradice but if you can live with no compartmentalization the revelate is awesome..

Also consider a half frame bag. I think its one of the best bags for a bike. Keeps weight in the center, light but you won't be able to carry as much.

I have one of the larger Revelate seat bags and of the few times I've used it, I'm not a huge fan. When it's packed to the brim there's some definite sway to it akin to having a big tail on your bike. The back of my legs also hit it every time I pedal, but that may just vary by saddle position.

Kinda wish I just went for a quality front rack and bag instead.

You cant beat a front rack if your bike is designed for it. I never experience much sway with the revelate, I loaded it to the brim but with light stuff. You dont eant the heavy stuff back there. I have a front rando bag that I put some heavy stuff and the rest gors in the frame bag.

How do you intend to use the bag.... for road touring or off road camping? What do you plan to carry in it? Will you use it with other gear... frame pack, front carrier, top tube bags, etc?

For a bikepacking-style seat bag I can't recommend the Porcelain Rocket Mr. Fusion highly enough. The little strut support keeps even an overloaded bag from swaying when climbing out of the saddle, etc. The system is modular too so I swap in a smaller dry-bag for shorter trips.

Heard great things about Carradice bags esp. if you are looking for a more traditional look, but I'd take my Mr. Fusion for any ride that took me off smooth-ish roads.

I have a Porcelain Rocket and a larger Oveja Negra Gearjammer. Both are great with no swing. The bikepacking bags we use now carry more with easier tire clearance than the Acorn, Carradice and Riv style mentioned by others. I have a relatively small amount of seat post exposed on my Holland and I can use a large Oveja Negra Gearjammer with no issues.

I love my Swift Industries front and rear bags on my rando style bike (custom, MUSA - would be my choice over Carradice or Acorn) but beyond being stylish, the volume and weight penalties are too much to go with over a bike packing type bag on a road bike.

I'm gonna give a recommendation for the blackburn outpost saddle pack. I really like how the drybag is removable, letting me pack items off the bike which is convenient because fumbling with an already heavy-ass bike, loaded and loaded is a pain. Lots of thoughtful touches like the adjustment buckles having cam-style locks so it doesn't loosen up while riding.

It will be on a cx (All-City Macho King) bike for short trips. Mostly paved. Maybe some light gravel. It might also end up on a Karate Monkey for more rugged terrain.

The Apidura bags are very popular in unsupported racing and bike packing. Lots of friends use them. The Rapha element is just aesthetics and dollars.

The Brits have been touring using these for years...They have it figured out. You can't beat a Carradice with a Bagman support. Whatever the bag, though, the load position is less than ideal....While you are seated it's pretty good, but as soon as you stand, things handle like crap. On the plus side, you can mount one on most bikes so you don't have to buy a new, different type of bike to take an occasional short tour.

After years of trying all sorts of bags, I stumbled unto this by Ortlieb.
https://www.ortlieb.com/en/Saddle-Bag/
I got the medium size but they also have a larger version. I carry 2 spare tubes, sun screen spray bottle, Epi pen, Lezyne multi tool, 2 tire levers, patch kit, a new Ottolock and a folding back pack bag and I still have room for some more stuff. The bag itself is lighter than any other I have had. I highly recommend it.

You gotta set up your bag system. Everything that goes in the bike bags is compartmentalized into either thin stuff sacks or zip-loc before it goes in - when your bag explodes upon arrival its easier to deal with your stuff.

I have a revelate seat bag & half frame bag and I've been happy with them, although it does waggle a bit out of the saddle and if you dont have much seat tube showing or have a small FS mountain bike frame it may not work for you. I use a 2L platypus water bladder in the half frame bag, a drybag strapped to the bars gets clothes & sleeping bag, and hammock setup, stove/cups, and whatever else in the seat bag.

I've been attracted to the Blackburn bag, but read critical reviews of it swaying - have you had these issues?

Seems like a relative bargain too.

Oveja Negra Gearjammer. They cover it all. They are tops for construction, design, materials, weight, and durability. I have not found a better seat bag for bike packing.

If you want something more traditional. I give a tip to the hat for acorn bags.

I've used Revelate (Pika) for a couple of years.

On my Merckx and BMC Monstercross.

the problem for me is that I like to stand on my bike, rock it and stretch the legs. the days of all out-sprinting are long past but I would feel like my hands were tied behind my back if I could not stand and rock the bike every now and then. and when I did it with a large saddlebag, the handling of the bike was so off! I've even gone to no saddle bag and carry stuff in one of my bottle cages.

the other thing is, it seems like at least a few times a year, I pull up to someone and notice their saddlebag was unzipped and it looks like some stuff has dropped out somewhere along the way. if you carry your stuff in a bottle cage, you can always see it and even get to it when on go.

the wagging is a little disconcerting. I think you can get rid of most of it, but if you have to re-pack on the road, it's not easy. I have the Revelate Vischache, and someone I know that rode the tour Divide told me the real secret is the effective use of the internal strap. Which does seem to be very important and also somewhat difficult to get right.

I just put an Acorn Boxy Rando bag on the front, and was a little surprised that I filled it up without getting rid of much of the stuff I had in the back. Although I was carrying clothes for overnight. I also find it useful for carrying water. I probably could put some bottles in the front bag.

With a bagman support, it's hard to beat a Dill Pickel or a Carridice long flap.

My carridice is going on ten, and even though I don't use it anymore. My friend rides it everyday, and still works like a champ.

Looking at the medium GearJammer in Orange to match my burrito supreme from road runner bags. Any discount codes out there? Any input one way or another on the product, waiting time to receive?
