I need a pretty simple $50-$75 helmet for around town. What is a good choice?

I have a Giro Foray which I've been quite happy with, and several of my friends have bought them after seeing mine. MSRP is $65 but you should be able to find one online for even less.

depends on what fits your brain bucket the best.

whatever brand helmet you wear that fits well likely has a lower end model that fits similar.

aside from that head down to the REI in spokane there and try on a few of the budget models, i bet you find one you like.

The lazer 02 has been my go-to for an inexpensive helmet. Nice fit, looks more expensive than it is.

You can also check out Sierra Trading Post to see what they have. You can move up a level or two and stay in the same price range. I just bought a MIPS Bell Gauge for $99.

For an around-the-town helmet, how about a foldable helmet, like the one from Carrera?

That is weird :)

I like my Foray too. Looks good, light and well ventilated, pads could be better but that is one of the trade offs of a cheaper model. Giro did just send me replacement pads free of charge recently which is cool.

Plus 2 on this. Picked up the MIPS version for about $40. Poor man's Synthe.

Yep! MIPS version likely next when it's new helmet time.
Poor man's Synthe.

COSTCO sells decent Bell Helmets. I think they were about $30.

Is there a compartment to hold a spare battery for the bottom bracket motor?

Same one here, works well for me.

Clearly I need to check out the Foray. I went to REI today but they did not really have much selection.

The Giro Atmos II continues to be on clearance for $75(ish) - great helmet and thinking about grabbing another one.
