Looking to find a compressor for home use, something powerful enough for tubeless set up, and so forth but portable enough as well.

Lots of brands out there, just need something simple enough that can seat the toughest tubeless tires.

cheers!

I would think any compressor with a storage tank will do. I've had a small one from Sears with a piston pump and tank that cost about $100 20 years ago. I can provide 120psi for a few seconds which ought to work for seating tubeless bike tires. It works great filling car and motorcycle tires but wouldn't provide enough high pressure air to power most air tools.

I think this is the one I keep in my shop:

Portable and enough power. Have had good luck with their quality.

for that duty-cycle, that 6-gal pancake is overkill. they're on the heavy side, so portability is compromised.

i have a couple 2-gallon compressors that fit the bill to a T. you can buy dual- or single-tank designs. i have both of these -- both are light weight and very portable, the single-tank deal takes up less floor space and i prefer it for that reason.

Fair point. I focused on the comment as "portable enough". These are probably overkill if you only want to work on bikes. I like this size because I build in my spare time and portable for me is portable around the garage and homestead. They can also be had for around $100 with good pricing.

I have an older twin stack dewalt and its small enough to carry but still pretty heavy, it has enough cfm to run my 1/2 impact wrench pretty well though. Plenty of compressors on CL that were purchased for one project and then sold afterwards so keep an eye out. California Air is supposed to make a pretty gutsy aluminum tank compressor that might be what I lean towards if the DeWalt dies, they are quieter which is a huge plus working in small garage or indoors.

Life with a noiseless air compressor is much more pleasant than enduring an annoying typical compressor. As for storage tank, larger is better. I've had a good experience with this quiet operation brand http://www.californiaairtools.com/

+1

Small premium for making sure you can run it in the morning before your ride without waking up the family.

Bought mine at Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/California-Air-Tools-CAT-4620AC-Compressor/dp/B005SOD08M/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1497181401&sr=8-8&keywords=california+air+tools) and really like it.

Bought for a project to replace baseboard in a kit with finish nailer. Portable enough to charge and drag around the house for projects. Made mounting tubeless tires on my 29'er a piece of cake. Be sure to use the drain/pressure release valve after use.

This is what I have. Does a great job and is pretty quiet for what it does.
