Fierte owners

I am looking at picking up a used Fierte. I wonder how wide a tire I can put in the 41.75 cm chain stays...When i had mien, I just put 23's in there, btu this one will be used as a commuter, so I am hoping a 27 will fit in the rear. Anyone know if a 27c tire will fit in a Fierte's stays?

I have a 54cm steel Fierte, and I have used Rivendell Ruffy-Tuffys (supposedly 27mm) front and rear. Clearance is quite close, but it does work.
