Curious what the community knows about this frame? I purchased one, great price for what appears to be a clean/straight frame, but I know basically nothing about this. Thanks in advance

Great steel Serotta frame with slx tubing or spx in larger sizes. Pretty Colorado concept tubing with traditional race geometry. Nice bikes!

Only made one year (1991) it was the final iteration of the Nova Special X and the first Serotta frame to have the S bend chainstays. One of my favorite Serottas. What color(s) did you get?

All the road bikes that year used pretty much the same fork. Here's one that's right with the exception that the Nhx fork had an engraved S on each side of the crown and lacked the "Colorado" engraving.

I have an nhx that I bought new and it is a nice bike.

Oliver 1850 was right in his description of the fork. He knows his stuff.

First, its a 52, not a 53. Second, the fork is not right because its a TIME fork which based on the notes is incorrect. So, it does not have an SLX fork its just a standard Serotta Steel fork, right?

Thanks. I already have an Atlanta (my daily rider/training bike) I have a Colorado and now this.

Dave Kirk likely knows what blades the forks used. I'm sure they were Columbus, as was the steerer which has internal spiral reinforcement.

Clearly getting the right fork is a priority, but the time fork is no slouch.

Hopefully Dave will chime in on this as his knowledge would really be helpful

Thanks

What fork blades did the NHX use? Probably Columbus but could also be Reynolds.....it depended on who the company owed money to.

Frankly is makes zero difference as the blades were nearly identical in profile and wall.

Most had the spiral fluted steerers and campy tips.

Dave

So basically any Serotta steel fork will work then. I'll get on it

Thanks for the info

My buddy has one painted up JUST like the one pictured. But, man, that thing is wore out. He used it up.

Nice to hear Dave's comments about the tubing. If you want to be totally correct just avoid the forks that have Colorado engraving, though the fork will likely be exactly the same as the one that came with the Nhx. I have a 1990 Nova Special that once stripped of paint revealed a fork engraved for a Colorado II- the engraving had been filled in with brass. Only difference in the forks in 1990 was the engraving. On the day my bike was being completed they were evidently out of plain fork crowns, so they substituted an engraved CII crown and filled the engraving with brass, simply because Novas weren't supposed to come with an engraved crown. Variations exist, just look for the semi sloping crown with an "S" engraved on both sides. The squarish brake boss is another distinguishing characteristic.
