Along w/some cash I have received a few items in a frame trade, & 1 was brand new Shimano ST-R500 Front (2x) STI shifter.
OK...So here is my issue/reason for post.
I hope to match R500 to a NOS 10/9s STI for niece's 1st compact DR tour rig, but I truly have no idea what model/models I should be looking for.

Is there an 10/9s STI out there which will have the same hood ergonomics as the R500?
I'm a Campag guy & have limited to no Shimano STI knowledge so any and all help regarding this will be truly appreciated

Shimano 6500/6600/7700 series look pretty close. Might be easier to find a pair of cheap shifters than looking for a lone right shifter.

4500 (Tiagra)/5500/5510 (105)/6500/6510(Ultegra)/7700(Dura Ace) were all 9s with similar hood shapes, of course hoods weren't interchangeable between them so not exactly alike. 6600 mentioned above is 10s and a different hood shape altogether.
The R500/R600 were, I believe, a short reach shifter so perfect for what your niece especially if she has small hands.

Thank you very much hoko & cmb for the Shim-STI info
9spd will be just fine for her @ this point especially since my former teammate now believes that he actually has a very low mileage 6500 sti from his wife's old ride somewhere in his part pit

Yep, as mentioned, that's the 9 speed style.

Be careful with the faceplates, they're easy to damage and it's near impossible to find replacements any more.

Needs a replacement nameplate, also available on the bay.
