that's a bummer. what a great voice and a legacy of great music.

i was watching a great youtube interview of him not long ago, he was saying he had a lot of demons with hardcore drug use over the years.

was never a huge fan of Soundgarden (though as a drummer, I love listening to Matt Cameron) but the grunge era and those surrounding it played a huge role in my life.

regardless, sad news. rest in peace.

(also, OP, out of respect for the man, can you please change the thread title to spell his name correctly?)

Very sad, the wake suicide (although not yet confirmed) leaves is devastating.

Awe man - I read this earlier, really bummed me out. Now I'm remembering all of the old friends I listened to Soundgarden with...

"Someone tried to tell me something
Don't let the world bring you down
Nothing will do me in before I do myself
So save it for your own and the ones you can help"

Chris Cornell has helped me throughout my life and will continue to.

Badmotorfinger holds up. Strong album.

I saw Soundgarden in 1991 with Metallica at the Day on the Green concert at the Oakland Coliseum. Great show! The bass player and I in my band back then used to always have that cassette playing often while driving to shows in his Suburban.

I often play along with Jesus Christ Pose at my rehearsal studio. Great song to drum along with.

My favorite male voice.

Mine too.... dammit

The front men from this era haven't fared well at all, Scott before him died in his tour bus at a hotel I ride past every day on my commute.

I'll be having a good cigar tonight while listening to some Soundgarden and Audioslave, RIP.

this is the song I always think about when I hear his name. I also think he covered Billie jean better than the original.

Thoughts and prayers for his family.

Woke up to this and have been bummed out about it all day. I was never a huge Soundgarden/Audioslave fan, but Temple of the Dog is on steady repeat and one of the albums I couldn't live without.

Was just listening to them yesterday and thinking "man, I really need to go see them live next time they play....." Ugh.....

Huge loss of someone who was really the voice of a generation.

Yeah, Matt and Kim had the cool punk roots. Was never into the vocal heavy sound that Chris brought. Sympathy to those who were fans.

One of the all time top five rock front man / singers. Collateral is one of my favourite movies and one of the reasons is CornellĀ“s voice in one of the sequences.
I am a huge fan of everything he did.

Crap. Talented singer. His voice always reminded me a bit of Burton Cummings, the singer from The Guess Who.

Soundgarden was one of only two bands from the entire grunge era (the other being Don Caballero, who don't really qualify as "grunge") that made more than a tiny blip on my personal radar and motivated me to buy their albums.

I still listen to "Outshined" nearly every day at work: It's one of five pieces burned on my personal demo disc that I use for evaluating sound systems.

RIP

52 is too young.

it must be a terrible thing to feel so trapped in life, even with money, fame and talent, that it comes down to hanging yourself in a detroit hotel bathroom.

he must have been really struggling.

playing billy jean now...
