I know people are dyin' to see pictures, n' I'm trying to gather 'em all in one place...

First, our gracious host in PINK: Douglas Brooks aka dbrk

His beautiful home.

His playmobil (KeithA sitting on top)

Again, allow your imagination to think BIG and LOTS. My little camera only captures 1/50th of EVERYTHING inside the "shrine"...er I mean, basement.

A mariposa tandem.

dbrk kindly let me borrow the Peg Luigino...once belong to Dr. Dennis Cotcamp. Thank you, dbrk.

Super pix weisan.

I can't wait to see the outdoor ones.

I need to get mine load into the PC and posted.

I am so glad you made it out to this one. I may have to make a special trip back to TX just to get a couple of rides in with you and get some of that County Line BBQ!

Left to right: Ray, myself, Mike Barry and the white mariposa tandem that he and his wife (Clare) rode during the rambler.

The very charming Mrs. Barry. Now, don't let her fool you, on one stretch, Mike and Clare fired up the afterburners and left me in the dust. (The gentleman talking to Mike is Ray, aka "rainmaker")

Dave aka BumbleBeeDave and dbrk on friendlier terms. :D

Now, back indoors for a while.

Debbie (Tom Byrnes's wife) and dbrk in the kitchen. Look at that smile, truly a labor of love.

http://alicehui.com/serotta/FLRambler06/6.jpg

Last shot taken by Keith-pal. Me with Luigino on our maiden ride Thursday evening. It was love at the first pedal stroke. It's painted with this understated modest blue, straight simple lines, elegant design by Dario.

http://alicehui.com/serotta/FLRambler06/1.jpg

ps. Because of the rain, I did not take out the camera to shoot pictures as often as I like. But don't worry, I know BBDave, Ginger, and many others have taken quite a few pictures, be patient.

Thanks for the great photos Weisan, it's wonderful to see everybody together. I can't believe you were there! :)
One curious question...what's everybody, except Bruce and Tom, looking at behind them?

We had a Nobody Gets Dropped rule, which people graciously accepted so those ahead occasionally sat up for those behind...sometimes flats, sometimes it's those hills that you see in the background. In our neck of the Finger Lakes it's never flat unless you have one.

dbrk

p.s. Wonderful pictures Weisan! And what an amazing fellow he is.

Bruce K

Douglas, that's not true at all.

I can name three places where the roads were flat:

The top of the hills
The bottom of the hills
Your driveway outside the garage

I know! After having a baby less than 3 months ago, can you believe it?!!

One word: Bless. Two words: My wife. Three words: She loves me.

They are looking back to make sure we don't leave anybody behind. dbrk has done a marvellous job controlling the pack and enforcing the "nobody gets dropped" rule. We maintained a comfortable pace throughout that allowed friendly conversations to go on. Neato!

. . . but I have about 300 of them and have to go through all of them.

I'm trying hard to do that this week, as I'm on vacation next week. But if I don't get it done this week then I will get them done ASAP after Labor Day and post them in my pbase gallery . . .

..and TdFL 2006

Same flatter.
Same fixer.
Heck, probably even the same rear wheel.
Wonder if the same $1.00 bill was used? ;)
Poor BBD!
And is the start of some sort of weird tradition???

Dave's gotten a bit slower since he started carrying Too Tall around in his seat pack. BIG A$$ seat pack too.

. . . I wasn't going to brag about this, but since you've forced my hand! . . . Four flats for the weekend!

Friday ride . . . The one you're looking at. I was (and am) perfectly capable of fixing my own flat, but TooTall in both cases just kind of pushed his way in there--and who am I to argue with a guy who's 6'7"?

Saturday PM ride . . . Got one here, too out on the road. dbrk shouldered me aside on this one, and again, why argue? He's doing the job for me! I'm not sure why these guys don't think I can do it myself, though. Maybe he just didn't want to have to stand looking at my wet black-and-white shorts while I bent over changing it?

Saturday post-PM ride . . . I was cleaning up my bike in dbrk's basement and found my front tire way soft. I actually changed THAT one myself! with a beer in hand, dry, warm--now THOSE are conditions I can work under! ;)

Sunday ride . . . We got to an intersection about 3 miles from Doug's house and he led one group uphill the short way to his place and I went with the other group down the big hill for more miles. Just as I hit 30mph my rear tire started hissing. so I stopped, and Curt Goodrich, Frank B. and others went flying past. I figured I would ride back up the hill on my semi-flat tire and change the tube on flat ground before heading back the short way behind dbrk. so I pedal up the hill, get off the bike--which by this time has a totally flat rear tire--and go for my seat bag with my spare . . . only to find I had left it on top of my car to dry in the sun. D'oh!!!!!!!!!
So here I am by myself, no spare, 3 miles from salvation . . . pulled out the cell phone, left a message for dbrk, and started walking. I guess i got about 1.25 miles before Doug showed up to haul my sorry @ss home . . . I changed this one myself, too.

Then, to add insult to injury . . . i got ANOTHER flat Tuesday night! FIVE in 5 days! I am now sporting brand news tires and tubes to hopefully stop the carnage.

So you can now OFFICIALLY call me the King Of Flats! A pity, really . . . though he kept protesting, I think deep down Avispa really WAS enjoying wearing the crown!

My memory is a little hazy. It's either a Ritchey or a Deda. They come in black, but Peter powdercoats them silver, for a little more homogeneous appearance.

seems a little silly to single two bikes out of such a gathering of nice rides, but that jp wiggle and that teriffically understated ebisu are both drool cool.

thanks john. i was really drawing a blank on what a bar that shape
could possibly be in silver. Makes a lot of sense. It looks like he
does the same to the stem. I've seen one with his logo decal on it.

Man, I missed my friends on this thread! So many fond memories choked up on this trip

Nick (angry scientist) and I were just having this conversation about focusing next year less on increasing n+1 but more on getting out to some of the rides to meet with pals on this forum or do a famed epic ride like 6gaps or sumthin'.

I think if we can pool our resources together, offer someone a place to stay when they visit our areas it would make the trip a lot more affordable.

Glad you resurrected this thread, Weisan. Good stuff.

I learned two things. 2006 may as well be 1986. The bikes and Rapha are timeless.
