I'm looking for ideas on kid's bikes, so post up some pictures of your kid's, nephews/nieces, etc... Bikes. I'm looking for inspiration for my son's new ride.

My kid has the Giant road shown above. It hangs in the basement very nicely.

I always picked my own rides!

My kids have been mostly on second hand bikes. They outgrow em so fast, that it's more financially feasible for us(especially after buying our daughter her first bike new, and watching her lose interest in bike riding).

My son has an older Cannondale 650c bike

And a 24" Hotrock that we found on CL for cheap, and overhauled

He's dipping his toes into the C&V world with this Centurion project

This is what you ride at 8 these days apparently :)
According to my friend n collegue at least. His son is on a track frame 44cm c-c, 130mm cranks, 33cm c-c drop bars, 24" wheels. Its a cool bike!

I had my daughter on a smaller bike with 24" wheels the past couple of years....big growth spurt necessitated the new bike. I got the frame relatively cheap, and splurged a bit on the Potenza as I can move it to her next bike when it's time.

My 8 year old rides a Transition Ripcord. The Ripcord is a 24" full suspension bike with 100mm travel in the front and rear.

I made some pretty significant modifications from stock. I swapped out the wheels, tires, cassette, bars, stem, saddle, seatpost and pedals. Stock weight on the bike was right at 30 lbs, but right now it sits at 23lbs. The lighter weight parts (wheel/tire combo in particular) make for a bike he can more easily climb with.

He also races with a 2015 Redline Flight Junior. This bike, at 15lbs, is pretty light for a kids bike.

That little Norco is particularly cool with the dropper post!

Both my girls have 24" wheel mtn bikes for cruising aroumd the neighborhood.

Went for a short road ride with my 10 year old today. Her first time on regular (very lightly traveled) roads. She has an old 650c Cannondale r600. Big smile the whole ride, oh yeah, and she was smiling too. ;)

My 8yr old has a 650c trek 2000... it is stripped to a bare frame and once she is interested it will be rebuilt. Building the bikes with them, with their input and assistance, is half the fun.

Took them both for 9 miles on a local trail last weekend and they had a blast so we'll go back again soon.

I can get my kids any bike I want, we can afford it...but right now, I am taking the approach of "I know this is junk, but you gonna ride the crap out of it until I think you are ready or worthy of an 'upgrade'."

Welcome to the School of hard knocks of life. :D

I got my son a used Trek 24" road bike last year when he was 8. He loves it and we ride it as often as we can. Last week he was telling me how much he enjoyed riding with me and couldn't wait to get stronger so he could join me for longer rides.

After I saw this picture of him descending, I had to remind him to keep a finger on the brakes...He's a bit fearless.

Felt F24 we picked up from a forumite:

But pretty soon this Viner I'd like to convert to FG to try to break him of his habit of coasting after every third pedal stroke:

I'd been delinquent as a father until this past weekend with my kids.

At 5, 7 &9 none of them were comfortable sans some sort of cycling balance aid.

A hour at a local middle school field and the adjoining path and they were mostly cured of that.

5 year old needs to work on his pedaling, but had a strider balance bike
7 year old had a 16" wheeled kiddo bike from performance.
9 year old had a 20" bike we picked up second hand...

just bought the 9 year a xs fuji absolute flat bar road bike which was the smallest frame that still maintained 700c wheels. pick it up wednesday night from a lbs. should be a large enough frame/bike to last her into her teens and maybe then some... or worst case can transfer to MIL's use when she's in town.

bikes will be subsequently passed down to siblings.

hoping the 9 year old sticks with it enough through the summer that she gains some interest in riding road... at which point i'll be searching some xs frames to build one up for her.... working a groupset upgrade for myself into it :bike:
